freightshaker2 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Alright so I've started on a new build. Originally I was thinking about using the Mercury Sleeper I previously posted but after talking to Robbie Spencer I decided to use his old truck for inspiration. So his 81 A model was purchased by Jeremy Gouge. It has IMT Transport flags on it now. And Jeremy repainted it and it just looks flawless. So inspiration pic is posted and I have the frame built up. I snagged a revell of Germany w900 kit off of ebay for 60 bucks. It had an extra hood and cab as well.. so naturally I jumped quick on it. I'll post more as I make progress. 3
freightshaker2 Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 Got the satin black put down on the cab hood and sleeper. 4
BK9300 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Beautiful inspiration pic - going to be a great looking build!
cifenet Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Nice work on the frame extension, and it looks great in black already!
freightshaker2 Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 Just a progress update... it was setting on all wheels... but I felt the 22.5 were small and since the subject truck has 24.5... im currently waiting for 1/24 22.5 wheels... not sure but they might make up just enough difference to look right. Working on a scratch built visor.. and working out some small details. It's all about having fun and the hour or so I get to set down and build is like therapy lately. Thanks everyone for the kind words. Hopefully this build does the truck a good tribute. 5
Jimbo8v92 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Beautiful build man👌👌. I remember watching watching Chris' cb interview with that truck. Love the trailer you have aswell.
cifenet Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Superb! Looking good! I see you painted the door trim edge also, nice touch!

I did and as you can see, I have a small spot to correct on passenger side. I will need to touch the satin black up and get rid of that splotch. I did the sleeper hinges and vents as well. I really like the molotow liquid chrome. it's a bit pricey 14 bucks a marker... but to make it even better Hobby Lobby has a generic brand liquid chrome marker and its only 3.99 and works equal to the Molotow. I highly recommend if you have a local hobby lobby to stop and grab one. 10 hours ago, Jimbo8v92 said: Beautiful build man👌👌. I remember watching watching Chris' cb interview with that truck. Love the trailer you have aswell. Jim, that was one of the better Rolling CB interviews. This truck Justin Lang had originally, then he sold it to Robbie Spencer out of Watsontown, his family have some pretty incredible A Models. 3 Bar C actually runs one of Spencer's older A models as well. Black with Maroon and White. Anyways. Robbie had the truck quite a while hauling potatoes and he ran with Dad and I quite a bit. When he sold it to Jeremy Gouge at IMT and I was surprised and a little sad, but only because I wished it was me buying it haha! I've been sending pics of the build to Robbie as well. He currently builds trucks for customers at the old homestead. Good people. That trailer is a potato puller I built it looks similar to one we pulled... we had it for 3 weeks and a car ran under it while loaded and ripped the tandems out and totaled the trailer. it lightweighed 10,500lbs... perfect for bulk potatoes. what a shame. 1
Jimbo8v92 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Just seen this. Another bad A model Jeremy just had built not that far from me. Thats really cool you know the black A model personally. Theres a few pretty iconic trucks i grew up around that are still around, and every time i see them its like seeing an old friend. 1
freightshaker2 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Is that the one they call The Judge? There was a video I had saw of one of Jeremy's trucks and it had this wicked Cummins "Lope Tune". I was curious if it had the KTA600 in er. 1
freightshaker2 Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Small progress. Scratchbuilt visor on... did the solid row of chicken lights across the roof and put the scratch built trim under the cab and sleeper. Just a snap of the mock up. Waiting on the wheels to show up so I can figure if I need to change anything before final assembly.. blacksheepcustoms makes some decent 3d printed 10 holes... sometimes it takes alittle to deliver tho. 4

If its got a serious lope ide say your right about having a kta under the hood. Visor and roof lights look sweet 👌👌😎
cifenet Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Looking better and better on each update! Lots of chrome parts contrasting black quite well also.
Gary Chastain Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Nothing better than black and chrome rig, she’s gonna be sweet. 1
freightshaker2 Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Put some lenses on it and got the fuel tanks mounted. Scratchbilt front bumper with the lil lights on the corners for class 😉 and I started working on the exhaust. Just some small updates. Still waiting on the wheels tho... snail mail 😑. 4
cifenet Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Did you wrap the bumper with foil? Came out quite nice. The exhaust pipe looks super cool, definitely will add the "mean/tough" look to the truck.

First time I tried to molotow chrome it.. didn't look right its too large and too flat and looked splotchy. Built a second and I tried to use chrome foil vinyl... and it just didn't look natural bent that one removing the vinyl so Built a third and used aluminum hvac tape and covered it... and it looks natural yet "chromey". Best part is you can actually polish it lightly and gently to give it more shine. Exhaust pipes are liquid chrome... the tape would have gave an unsightly seam. And i got lucky they came out decent. But I need to invest in an air brush system. I think I could airbrush the molotow chrome it wouldn't be splotchy... application determines end results right? Thanks for checking it out! 1
freightshaker2 Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 Well after 2 weeks (not the vendors fault it was usps) the wheels showed up. Italeri Michelins fit pretty good. Got some more progress on it done. Exhaust plumbing done, quarter fenders on.. bumper mounted and it's shaping up fair. Should have it finished up this weekend. Thanks for looking. 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted March 8 Posted March 8 The Molotow looks much better when airbrushed. Your truck is KILLER! 1
Gary Chastain Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Wow, does that look the business and tell a great story. 1
freightshaker2 Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 This project is moved over to the under glass section. 3 1
