While browsing Hobby Lobby for ideas I came upon these in the jewelry section. They make different size balls but this is the one you need for a gearshift knob. It works out to about 2 inches in 1/24th if my math is mathing. You just cut the pin part to the right length, it's already chrome and you're ready to go. For my Golf, I painted the ball white, but if you have really steady hands you could probably do it up as a pool ball.

Great tip, I'm actually using something from that aisle as suspension parts on my 34. Over in the sewing section they have pins with colored balls on them, similar size and a bit cheaper.

That's what I found. Good tip on the tailights.
