Leon Cream Posted May 10 Posted May 10 69 Torino Cobra gluebomb kitbashed with an unknown Thunderbird NASCAR. I decided to save this wreck and attempt some scratch building. Comments and criticism most welcome. Thanks for looking. First up is the wheels, from the Thunderbird. I emitted the rear calipers and painted the rotors to represent drums. 1
Leon Cream Posted May 10 Author Posted May 10 The interior, based heavily on the Torino Kit with a few pieces from the parts box and a couple of attempts at scratch building. Any suggestions before I marry the interior into the body are most welcome. 5
bobss396 Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Watch the front tire clearance against the inner well/shock towers. 1
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Looks very cool so far. What's the spotlight for? 1

I have cut the inner guards away from the body. Not sure what in going to do for a front end yet but will come up with something I'm sure. Thanks for the comment 👍 1

Whilst researching for this build I read that some teams had trapdoor sort of setups which allowed the driver to inspect the front O/S Tyre during a race or test session. I thought this would be fun to try and replicate in scale. Because the model was incomplete and melted at every glue joint I thought I'd go all out trying new things and if it turns out not brilliant it's no great loss. 1
Leon Cream Posted Monday at 04:00 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:00 AM Sorry, forgot to mention the spotty is to see through the trapdoor in the floor board. 1
Leon Cream Posted Monday at 04:05 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:05 AM (edited) "To check on the wear of the right front most cars were equipped with a little trap door on the right of the firewall, opened by a string or cable from the drivers seat. This allowed the driver to see how far the right front tire was worn." Taken from another website. See picture below, also taken from the web. I really enjoy learning little things like that. Things that seem crazy to imagine nowadays. Edited Monday at 04:07 AM by Leon Cream Grammer
Leon Cream Posted Monday at 09:46 PM Author Posted Monday at 09:46 PM Hi, Finished model Will have no sponsorship decals, but otherwise will be built as a race car. Sorry if it's in the wrong section. 1

Sorry if it's in the wrong section. No worries. Could have gone either way. Wouldn't have been the first road legal NASCAR model built, just wondering. Great interior detail, BTW.
Leon Cream Posted Monday at 11:18 PM Author Posted Monday at 11:18 PM Thanks for the interest. I imagine it's maybe an ex race car that's being used as a test mule, perhaps by a tyre company or race team. Should have some updates soon. Thanks again 👍
