Hi Folks,

I've been struggling about what to do next and changed my mind several times.

Finally I decided to do one more Truck from the movie Convoy!

This time I better not say it's the last one! 🙈

OK, enough of my personal bla bla.

This is it: an IH CO4070a

Baldeagle01.jpg.319eb4b07b35862e0989f2fe2f81e677.jpg

Handle in the movie:

"Bald Eagle"!

I will of course design and print all parts myself. At least of the truck. I'm not sure yet if I'll purchase a reefer kit. (It's a lot of printing!)

You'll be the first to know!

These are the first parts I designed:

The cab with sun visor

...and the interior tub with dash:

I downloaded the instruction sheet of the AMT kit to see the details of the interior parts better. Hard to see on a finished model!

For the cab I used my finished IH model:

Hope you enjoy the thread!

Oh my God, I posted this in Under Glass! 🙈

I'll try to delete it and put it over to "in progress"!

Sorry about that!

Thanks to Stichtup for transfering my thread to the right place! 👍

Not to nit pick, But the Magnavox truck isn't a 4070a, It's a Transtar II. How ever there was a Transtar 4070a in the film as well. The 4070a is in Pabst Blue Ribbon Livery. Bonus because someone makes the decals for the Pabst 4070a! This truck show up along with the Transtar II when they destroy the town where Spider Mike is being held in jail. It takes out a power pole in a scene chasing the local sheriff, and later at RD's Funeral! P>S This truck is duel axle so the AMT kit would be all that's needed for the semi part.

Thanks for the infos!

Still I'll be building the "Magnavox" IH! I already have a tandem IH CO4070a.

What exactly are the differences between the 4070 and the Transtar II?

The head light bezzles are different but what else?

I did some research and found out that it's actually called a CO4070b which followed the "a" around end of 1972!

The differences are mainly the head light bezzles and the engines!

The b cab was set a bit higher to make room for larger engines!

The cab itself as well as the chassis didn't change much. Only a few minor details like the chassis front also to adapt to larger engines!

That's about all I was able to find out. Interesting but not really relevant for my build though!

I'll put in the V8 I already installed in the Superliner! In my Ertl kit there's also a V8.

Hope to make more progress this weekend like designing the chassis.

By the way, if you're wondering why I called this thread "Convoy, take 7", it's because it's my seventh Convoy truck and I wanted to make it sound a bit movie like! 😊

Differences 4070 a? Transtar II are: Headlight pans, Windshield wiper placement, Change of step design (under cab doors) Ridges on acess door on front of the cab, Interior: The dash is totally different in the Transtar II as are the seat design. Production of the Transtar II Began in 1974, And as you stated known as the "B" series.

Thanks for your efforts!

Still I probably won't use all this information in my build!

It's not to be rude or not to deny worship of your efforts so please don't be offended!

My goal is to let the first impression show the primary attributes of this specific movie truck.

Since there isn't much picture material to use as references I'll try to make it look as close as possible!

That is up to you. My late dad worked at International Harvester in Fort Wayne Indiana. His job was painting the Cab's/Hoods of the Transtar's/Paystar 5000. from 1962-83 Fort Wayne Indiana. 85-86 Springfield IH Truck plant: 87-92 Navistar International Same Springfield, Oh Factory...

Did some designing on the chassis and rear axle!

Again I used my finished model as a reference so it's probably not 100% authentic but who will take a look at the rear axle when the rig is on the shelf?

The chassis will get a bit more details later.

That's all for now!

Here's a bit more progress:

This is a virtual mock-up to see if everything will fit and there are no parts collisions to be expected!

The chassis with fuel tanks, mud flaps, battery box, ...

With cab:

Now I have to isolate the parts into single print files!

Of course there's still a bit to do designing parts!

This is not all yet. The shift tower, some interior parts, tail lights, drive shaft, exhaust, air cleaner, ...

Did the big plumbing of the exhaust and air intake, shocks and rims!

I know, it's not all authentic IH but that's the nice thing about designing, you can make things fit the way you like!

Just like scratch building, it's not always 100% (at least mine isn't) but it works!

The result is what counts and what the builder has to be satisfied with! 😉

The rims I took out of my virtual drawer. I had designed them for my R.D. Mack!

The exhaust stack will be a donor part from an old knocked down Volvo F12 Globetrotter as well the seats.

The quarter fenders are carry over parts of one of my favorite builds, the IH Conco!

They're staying in the family!

Tank brackets are my "standard" self designed parts a bit modified to fit the short chassis. Fifth wheel is from  a previously built Convoy truck I built. The K100 with the belly dump. Everything else is new and specially designed for this build!

Hope you enjoy the thread!

The virtual part is almost done. Then comes the hardware!

Jürgen, you do amazing design work - looks awesome. Now, I'm cheering for you to get a resin printer!

HERE  -  HERE !!!!!!!!  I totally agree Brian,  No Pressure now JM!!😋🤣🤣

Thanks Guys!

I hardly have space enough for my filament printer. I already sold the old one to make room and I won't sell this one!

Maybe someday I'll get one but not at the time! Anyway, I need some sort of motivation to improve my skills in this one! 😉
