Hello all,

Unfortunately, while building this kit and applying the carbon fiber roof decal, it failed to conform to the curves leaving wrinkles  that couldn't be overcome.  I was wondering if there was anyone out there who have built this kit without using this decal and would be willing to part with it?  If so msg me.

Thanks,

Gil

I have this Tamiya kit, but unfortunately I can't spare the decal you are looking for.  What I can do is scan the decal and put it in a PDF file at the correct scale, that way you can use it as a template to cut out one from a carbon fiber decal if that will help.

Also, a trick I use when I have a decal that is going over compound curves to help get it to conform.  I take a wash cloth that I get wet and wring it out so it is damp, then I put it in a plastic container and zap it in the microwave for a few seconds.  Not so long that it is too hot that it might damage the model, then I put the decal on and lay the wash cloth on it.  the moisture and heat from it will help soften the decal and then after a minute or so I use the wash cloth to try and smooth out the decal.  If you need to you can repeat as needed, just don't get it too hot.

If I can help with a scan of the decal sheet, please let me know.

Leo,

I really appreciate your offer.  I have thought of the copier method bc I have some Scale Motorsports Carbon Fiber decals (although not sure if the same pattern).  I have never heard of the warm wash cloth method.  I tried the heat gun method as I do with other CF decals and it didn't work with these.  Right now I am still working on making these work before I totally give up.  I have brushed multiple coats of Future to "bury" the wrinkles or stubborn areas, then like leveling paint when polishing, I am using 4000 grit sanding sheet, coating again, and repeating the process until the clear is level.  It is slowly working I think.
