Leanthraki Posted yesterday at 04:31 AM Posted yesterday at 04:31 AM Hi guys, Just a quick question because I can't decide if I'm being a bit dim, but nowhere in the kit or instructions of the AMT 1929 Ford Woody/Pickup can I see any kind of engine mounting or crossmember - the instructions seem to completely miss out fitting the engine & as far as I can tell it just sort of hangs there between the driveshaft & the front suspension link? Many thanks G
sidcharles Posted yesterday at 09:07 AM Posted yesterday at 09:07 AM i agree the instructions leave much to be desired. flathead engine seems to have a pin at the bottom of the waterpump/ generator belt casting. there should be a corresponding hole in the crossmember to accept it. transmission should tie in with the torque tube. looks like some imagination & centrifugal force may come into play to make the driveline rigid. here's what i'm basing my guess on; scroll down on the left for green 'download' box instructions: 1929 Ford Woody/Pickup, AMT/ERTL 6518 (1987)
Can-Con Posted yesterday at 02:13 PM Posted yesterday at 02:13 PM Yes, what Sid said above. I was surprised that the pin was actually on the pully/belt assembly but there it is. 🤨 In addition, IIRC, when I built mine I glued the back end of the tranny up against the fender unit where they touch. I don't remember if there is a pin on the top of the tranny for that though but, looking at the instruction sheet, there seems to be a hole there. 1
sidcharles Posted yesterday at 03:19 PM Posted yesterday at 03:19 PM OR .... perhaps the engine rests against the radiator, which in turn doesn't allow it to drop to the two-lane blacktop?
Leanthraki Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago Many thanks for the replies guys, very helpful - I see the attachment pin now 👍 As it turns out I've decided to go a different route & fit the Mustang engine from the Revell '32 5 window, which means I'll need to fab engine mounts & a crossmember anyway 😂 2
