Anyway for the couple of 3D print builds I've done with blems ,usually just slight print lines in some areas I've used Mr Surfacer ,,,brush on and sand Yes Scott, it is an issue of positioning. That's why I split up the cab this time to lay down the pieces flat. Since the cab is not as flat as a Pete or a KW cab it's not the perfect strategy but printing it in one piece is even worse. I'll keep experimenting to improve the quality. I might try that surfacer but that only works If you don't have any fine details that will be covered or sanded away. But thanks for the idea. I'll see if I can get that stuff and try it out. I'm always open for new ideas! 1
Jürgen M. Posted Monday at 05:46 PM Author Posted Monday at 05:46 PM The cab is almost completed. Tomorrow I'll fit in the windows and then close the roof. When that's done I'll begin printing the chassis and engine! 1

It takes twice as long but a significantly smoother finish. I did this KG a couple of years ago with a 0.2 nozzle. I did a little bit of sanding but not finish work. I don't have any pics fresh off the printer tho. Would you mind telling me which print parameters you chose for that print? Looks really nice! 1

Thanks, I never really change my print params except for temp based on the filament type. I just used the Super Quality setting in Cura with the 0.2 mm nozzle.

RoninUtah Posted Wednesday at 12:52 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:52 AM Very cool, good job "hiding" the print lines! A resin printer would have created a much smoother surface, but I agree about the mess, and mine requires constant maintenance. Even using water washable resin the stuff gets everywhere. Looking forward for further developments!
Jürgen M. Posted Wednesday at 04:39 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 04:39 AM Thanks Ron. I'm still not convinced of purchasing a resin printer. Of course they create better surfaces but I will try to further improve my prints before I decide. 1
Jürgen M. Posted Wednesday at 05:05 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:05 AM (edited) First chassis parts are printed and rails connected: Had to split up the rails cause they wouldn't have fit on the printer bed in full length! Edited Wednesday at 05:05 AM by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted Wednesday at 07:38 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 07:38 AM Rear suspension is printed. Next will be front and rear axles! 2
harvester850 Posted Wednesday at 02:18 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:18 PM If you print with ABS filament, you can try ABS / Acetone smoothing to your prints https://all3dp.com/2/abs-acetone-smoothing-3d-print-vapor-smoothing/

Jürgen M. Posted yesterday at 06:03 AM Author Posted yesterday at 06:03 AM I made a bit of progress on the chassis. The rear axles are box parts left over from the refurbished Cruiseliner! I managed to repair them good enough so I could use them here. Rims and front axle are also printed. Now the steering will follow. Then shocks, stabilizers, panhards, brake chambers, ... 1
Jürgen M. Posted yesterday at 11:26 AM Author Posted yesterday at 11:26 AM (edited) Rear suspension partially assembled: Have to print the drive shaft between the axles before I install the second axle. Front axle and steering pre-assembly: Wheels and rear brake drums: Front brake drums are in print! Edited yesterday at 11:27 AM by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago More progress on the chassis: Rear axles and battery box installed ... rear brake drums added: Wheels ready for mounting: It's the same orange as on the cab but it looks more yellowish here. Have to add a few things before painting the chassis though like brake chambers, shocks, brackets for exhaust and air cleaner, ... 1
