Dragline Posted yesterday at 08:12 PM Posted yesterday at 08:12 PM Seriously old project that will get finished this year. I came across these pics and since I've been busy doing everything but building, I thought I'd at least post something cool. Off white with blue interior. A few plug wires and brake lines. This kit takes some patience, but it is rewarding me if I take the required steps to see everything is lined up and some thought has gone into things quite a few steps ahead. With those thoughts in mind you can get this result. Which I am proud of. 3
Big Messer Posted yesterday at 09:09 PM Posted yesterday at 09:09 PM Nice build!. One thing I never figured out is how those horizontal springs in front and rear of the differential work or what they do... 1

One thing I never figured out is how those horizontal springs in front and rear of the differential work or what they do... 1 The 1930s Mercedes-Benz 500K featured a revolutionary independent four-wheel suspension system, including double-wishbone independent front suspension with coil springs and a double-joint swing axle at the rear with its own double coil springs and a transverse balance spring. This world-first setup separated wheel location, suspension, and damping, providing superior comfort, handling, and straight-line stability compared to its predecessors. Key Features Front Suspension:Double-wishbone independent front axle with coil springs. Rear Suspension:Double-joint swing axle with a double coil spring and a transverse balance spring. Shock Absorbers:Lever-arm hydraulic shock absorbers were used at each corner. Benefits:The system was the first in the world to incorporate separate wheel location, suspension, and damping, leading to a more comfortable and better-handling car with improved precision. Innovation:This system was first introduced on the preceding 380 model before being refined for the 500K 1 1
Dragline Posted yesterday at 10:16 PM Author Posted yesterday at 10:16 PM Thanks for the comprehensive answer there Bob. I worked almost exclusively on Benz for 16 years and if this came into the shop I would have been dumbfounded. Actually I would have called and old friend who has since passed. He worked at Mattie VW and Viti Benz for what seemed like 100 years. He helped me when a 300SL came into my shop, I am certain he would have been a help with one of these. Although why one of these would be anywhere near my shop...... But saying that, why a 300SL came in is also one of those moments. Thanks for the history lesson and tech tip.
