jlucky Posted Monday at 10:56 PM Posted Monday at 10:56 PM Well here we go with another “vague approximation” real car build-up. As is so often the case, I had the Ed Pink decals sitting around for a long time while I collected the parts and the nerve to recreate this digger. It started with having an Altered States Resins short dragster body (my last one) and the decals. This is the third iteration of the car that ran through 1966 before being sold to Doug Wheeler and by this time it had been stretched from its original 150” wheelbase to a full 170”. Taking the resin short body I joined it to the AMT Tommy Ivo front engine chassis and nosepiece to get it close to the right wheelbase. I also had to rework the roll cage using bits from the parts box to get the proper radius dimensions. The 11.75 Goodyear slicks (right for the period) came from the Tom McEwen Tirend kit. Rear wheels are Daisy mags from Competition Resins, as is the proper sized Enderle bug-catcher. The chute and headers all come from the parts box. Fuel lines are from Pro Tech with Detail Master A/N aluminum fittings. A 3D printed distributor cap was married to the kit’s Cirello mag and wired up. Paint is Tamiya rattle-can pink with Micro-Scale red decals strips. I call it a “vague-approximation” only because it’s not quite there in every respect, but its still very representative of the dragsters that ran in 1966. 2
M W Elky Posted yesterday at 12:07 AM Posted yesterday at 12:07 AM That’s a really sweet rail job a real tribute to the old master . I think it looks pretty close to me . I would love to have a sheet of those decals were they from Joe Curtis?
Mike 1017 Posted yesterday at 03:06 PM Posted yesterday at 03:06 PM Great build of a NHRA Legend. I have read The Old Master book and highly recommended it

Actually the decals were an old set from Whoopie Kat Decals who I believe is no longer making decals (not sure). But I know Joe has a nice set...a little more complete than the one I used. If these hadn't worked I was going to order a set from him.
dragcarz Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago A very cool build Jerry! Your a man much like myself as I like to recreate historic drag cars. You chose a really tough one. The biggest hurdle is always reference material and parts to match the car correctly. I purchased several kits just for parts. Things like tire size and wheelbase are critical as is the right engine parts. Very well done ! Thanks for sharing!
Dragline Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago A stunner in every respect. Well played Sir, well played indeed.
