Donny Posted Tuesday at 07:25 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 07:25 AM Here is where I'm at. I've rubbed the body (1200) back to get rid of the SMS paint. Opinions please, is this far enough. If so, do I need to prime again or can I put a top coat on this. I have Tamiya TS ready to go, can't use my airbrush, (read earlier post). Opinions please. Don

bill-e-boy Posted Tuesday at 08:39 AM Posted Tuesday at 08:39 AM Don Take the sanding all the way up to 2000 -2400. Lacquer has a bad habit of throwing up sanding scratches. 1200 ok for primer but 2000-2400 before colour 1
Donny Posted Tuesday at 08:43 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 08:43 AM (edited) Thanks Bill, looks like a late night. 🙄 Nearly forgot to ask, do I need to hit it with the primer again Don Edited Tuesday at 08:46 AM by Donny
johnyrotten Posted Tuesday at 09:55 AM Posted Tuesday at 09:55 AM Primer would be a good idea, it will act as a sealer between the old paint and new,as well as help fill any scratches from sanding. I usually strip paint in an alcohol bath. There's a few different chemicals people use, depending on where in the world you are. Here in the U.S. "purple power" is a de-greaser many use. This charger was an old glue bomb that was once gold. No sanding needed, just time. 1
Donny Posted Tuesday at 08:47 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 08:47 PM Thanks John. Might give it a bath today - isoprop, and once dry, hit it with primer. Don 2
OldNYJim Posted Wednesday at 04:48 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:48 AM I can’t tell from the pics if that texture after sanding is where the SMS crazed the plastic…but either way, I concur, definitely prime again. Likely sand again after priming (if it isn’t smooth and ready to go) then prime again 1
Donny Posted Wednesday at 05:01 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:01 AM Thanks Jim. That's because I got into the restoration, rubbing back had started. I thought the heck with it, get into it fix it. Don 2
