MR. Macabre Posted Monday at 01:10 AM Posted Monday at 01:10 AM Since finishing my first 2 builds after being out of the hobby for 45 years, I wanted to build a HEMI powered Super Stock car. The Revell '68 HEMI Dart kit was still on b/o, so I chose a '69 Plymouth GTX. The kit came with a 440 6/pack, as well as a HEMI, which is the direction I chose after my first 2 builds were both '71 A bodies packing a 340 under their hoods. I decided to just cut out the parts of it's chassis to make room for the rear slicks that I was using instead of splicing the back half of another '66 Nova or '67 Chevelle's chassis' onto it like I did on the '71 Duster. This made everything a little easier, but I couldn't detail it as well as the Duster. The gas tank and spare tire wouldn't allow me to add any wheelie bars, and the floor pan in front of the rear axle didn't leave me any room to add some ladder bars to the car's leaf sprung rear end. I have since finishing it acquired some resin Lakewood old school traction bars that I'll paint yellow and add them to the rear suspension. I used quite few aftermarket parts on this build, like the slicks and front runner tires up front all on Weld Drag Lite wheels. The seats, roll cage, tach, fire extinguisher, and HEMI specific headers add several nice touches to this build. My biggest peeve though is that when I got the kit from Hobby Link in the mail, I didn't notice that the body was slightly twisted until I installed the windshield. So the car's passenger side front tire is slightly off of the ground. It looks like it's leaving the starting line sitting still. I also messed up the aftermarket distributor from Greg's, when I drilled the hole in the front engine cover it bottomed out and is sitting too tall for the hood to sit flat as well. I should have cut off a little and double checked it's installed height. I won't make that mistake ever again. So here's my second attempt at building an NHRA Super Stock car. Hopefully my current build, a '68 HEMI Dart will benefit from my mistakes. I'm never going to brush paint the dash again, it looks terrible. My "spare" 440 6/pack engine. There wasn't any way of using these. The back bars on the roll cage aren't anywhere near being centered, I don't know how I missed that little detail. 4

Brutalform Posted yesterday at 02:42 AM Posted yesterday at 02:42 AM Very nice Plymouth. Those rims and tires look perfect on your build. Also, I like your library. I’m a big fan of Poe, Lovecraft, and King. 1
