Is 600 grit sandpaper fine enough to wet sand a model. I'm getting ready to paint a 69 superbird and a 66 mustang. Also any tips or tricks are appreciated as always

In my opinion , Nope ! You want the body as smooth as you can get it . I finish up with the 1500 Wet / dry and then work my way all the way up to 12000 under cold running water . The smoother the body , the smoother your finish is going to be .

Some will argue that paint won't stick to the surface if it is that smooth , not true! Even at 12000 , the body has enough texture for the paint to grab on to . You can't see it , which is a good thing , but it is there !

600 is way to aggressive to use to sand in between coats of paint unless you're looking to sand back to bare plastic. All you're trying to do is to knock the high spots down and give the next coat a smooth surface to work with. Personally, 2000 as my girt of choice for sanding between coats. Anything rougher takes off to much paint and leaves surface scratches the next coat of paint has to fill. As Donn indicated the smoother the surface the better. Even if you have a perfectly mirror smooth surface the solvents in the paint will allow the different coats to bond together.
