Hiya Gregg, I'm curious about tha model, built by Jerry Cardinal that won the People's Choice Award. Did Mr. Cardinal say that this model was his "original design" or did he give credit to the original builder/designer from the early to mid 1960's. The reason I ask is that I saw the original 1:1 Customized 40 Ford at the Curtis Hixon Convention Center in Tampa, Flawduh at a Hot Rod/ Customs Show in I think 1964 or 65.

They also had the George Barris Lincoln Futura "TV Batmobile and Robin's Bat-kart." I wouldn't have driven that Bat-kart, you drove that go-kart with your HEAD leading tha way! Also had some of Roth's Kustoms there also.

Anyway, back to the 40 Ford Custom, the give-away is the unique grilles and the cut-outs in the rear of the fenders. Now here is where my memory is a little hazy, it t'was 50 years ago. As I remember it, this custom won a trophy at the Oakland Roadster Show and the car became a Centerspread in several Hotrod magazines. Either Hotrod, and/ or Rod 'n Custom or Car Craft.

The model brought back memories and that Kandy Kolor was DEEP! ! ! But for some reason, I thought it waz red-der.

I believe Jerry gave credit to the original car.

He had a mag from the '60s at GSL with the display

I am working on the feature of the car so should know soon, hopefully this weekend.

It is indeed a replica of a custom car from the 60's called "El Matador" and it was Jerry's intention to build it as a replica, not as his own design.
