Guest JamesDE Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I kept getting runs on the lower rocker panels. I have not repainted it yet. I'm out of metallic gold and red metal flake. The only parts I did not have to strip are the engine, chassis, and hood. The paint on the hood is just gorgeous. First things first. 1. What brand of paint are you using? For me, I will use the Testors spray bombs when I have to, I just make sure that I heat the can in hot water first and do light mist coats. I have been using Tamiya and Duplicolor paints with great results. The 61 Impala I painted was all Testors spray can, but most of my others have been Tamiya, or Testor's Lacquers. 2. The best primer that I like to use is Duplicolor primer sealer. 3. How are you spraying the paint? For me, what I like to do is take the can and put it in hot water for a few minutes. Helps to spray a little thinner. Start with light mist coats starting at one end of the area you are painting and spraying all the way to just past the end of the area you are painting. I usually do 3 mist coats before spraying a little closer than I was when I did the mist coats. I usually wait about ten minutes between mist coats, and 15 minutes to 20 minutes for the wet coats.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I used metallic gold for the base coat, then sprayed Testors Red Metal Flake #1629. I may hve held the can too close to the car when I sprayed. I have never heated up the cans before use. I may have to try that.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 The Ford looks great, James. The stance is just right for this truck.

Guest JamesDE Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Thanks guys! Yeah, I try to keep myself busy with several projects. Always have something to do during downtime of waiting for paint to dry, or waiting for parts to come in the mail.
