Build Up Boy Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Any recommandations for clear coating over a lacquer paint job and sealing decals other than clear lacquer? I'm concerned about too much build up / coats with the clear lacquer to acheive a high gloss look. I don't want to loose alot of detail on my 1/25 Pro Stock car. I do not own a air brush. Marty
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Hate to say this but, you'll have less build up using lacquer than you will with just about anything else. Enamels have a tendency build up around edges, emblems and trim. Lacquer doesn't and it usually goes on a lot less thick and polishes out better. If you want less build up, spray it in thin coats till you get what you want.
MikeMc Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 You want lacquer TS13 If you won't do lacquer , Then future is your choice
Fuel Coupe Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I just started using Urethane over lacquer and so far I like the results. It shoots over most all finishes and decals with little drama. Do your homework and protect yourself if you decide to go this route.
Build Up Boy Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 SHANE- Great cars! Gotta love Glidden's Pinto Pro-stock. I'm working on diecast version of Warren Johnson's 2000 Black & silver Grand Am. I like your paint stand, what'd ya make it out of or did you buy it? marty

MikeMc Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Not without a airbrush. No airbrush, you will have to use rattlecans. Laquer is your best bet, or buy a airbrush and use Future. You really don't need an airbrush for Future...Get a 3" or 4" SOFT bristled brush (not a cheapie) and paint the body in a couple of passes...then walk away.....do not touch but look in the corners..for a buildup or puddle...if it did then gently wick it away with a corner of a paper towel. you may need 2 coats...but this stuff works!! If you do not like it or made a boo-boo...Windex or ammonia will remove it even when dry. I have had more problems using my airbrushes with future...So I went to the brush route and am very happy...I've always used future on window glass and love it! Future is self leveling......
