Hey guys,

I know that alot of guys here have built the Revell 32 Ford Sedan and I'm seeking wisdom from the masters.

First, I need some kit specific tips of the easiest and cleanest way to go about chopping the top, and if I will need to add any material to the roof or pillar adjustments, and channeling the body== really need some good advice here on how to get around opening the doors and the frame issue.

If anyone has any good tips on lowering the front end that could be very helpful as well.

Here's where I made the cuts on a 32' Sedan switchers kit.

It was chopped,sectioned and channeled.

32switchersbodypieceswip.jpg

since the car was going to sit very low i cut channels into the floorboards instead of raising the floor too accommodate the frame, transmission, axle and drive shaft.

32switchersinteriorwip.jpg

Everything mocked back up well without having to add any styrene to the roof, the material taken out of the door jambs while sectioning it gave me that bit of play i needed.

Probably will never be finished, but here is how it sits now.

I'm not a master...but I've cut a few up.

Well you really should get some 1/8 fine line tape and a sharp razor saw...although some will say to stack cut off wheels and make 1 cut.

after you figgure out how much you want cut work slowly on your tape line..keep it straight and level...side to side also! As far as adding filler to the roof it will vary depending on where you cut. (jimmy flintstone makes some pre chopped bodies.)

to lower it ...how low do you want to go??? That needs to be answered before you pick a technique...You can drop the axle, reverse springs and cut perches, and of course Z the frame!

Channeling the body is usually just cutting firewall....now if you want an interior...there is your work!

Don't worry its only plastic...repeat this 5 or 6 times then pick up your Zona and cut that puppy!!!

Remember if you cut it Tenax and Evergreen can fill it up!!

So Abe , no simple answer....Plan it and Cut it up and then fix it up......SIMPLE!!! B)

Moderate Z front and back:

Major Z front and rear:

Note ...this one was also channeled and a new floor pan, and firewall were made, seats are always a fight along with steering!

I have pics of this build saved to my pc for reference. Very SWEEEET build!!! I had thought of hacking away at the floor and firewall much the same way you have mentioned, just didn't know if it was the way to go or not. I am wanting to replace the floor panels with something a little more detailed anyway. This might be the way I wanna go. I won't be sectioning it though. Not that confident yet. Thanks for the VERY HELPFUL info.

I have plenty of 1/8" tape. Stacking discs together is quite a nifty little tip. I was wondering if there is a certain place to cut the Revell kit to avoid adding any filler panels. I won't be setioning this one so I won't have to worry about that yet. I will be Z'ing the frame, just don't know how much yet. As for the interior, I am going to do away with the panels that came with the kit. I have seen others builds where they have made panels that replicate the the look of the interior door skins. I have also seen other builders cut the floor out completely and only replace material where the seats are attatched to the floor. That is something I was thinking about as well. Thank you very much for the tips.

here is a really good link that has gotten' me through some head aches ;) .

you'll probably have to enlarge the pictures so you can read the directions. just bookmark it on your computer so you could look at it anytime. :D

I have this bookmarked. I ran across it a couple days ago when I was scowering the forum for tips. That was the only thing I found. I am sure there are a few other guys that need answers to the quetions I have as well. I can't be the only one here that hasn't chopped a 32 Ford up. If anyone else has any questions about this subject that I haven't asked yet, Please ask it here. I am sure there are a number of things I haven't thought of yet.

Thanks for the compliment. Well i wouldn't say that the way i did it is the way to go. With the chop and sectioning, if i had done a 'traditional' channel, there would have been no way to fit the driver and passenger figures inside. So i had to sink the seats between the frame rails.

On some of my models ive sectioned out the amount of channel i want from the interior panels. Once you glue the floorboard to the interior panels, mount the frame and place it in the body, its channeled. Well except for a bit of firewall massaging.

I think that everyone finds a way that works for them.

A lot of people here have built quite a few wicked looking 32's,

I'm sure ill learn a thing or three as well.

Hey guys,

I have a few more questions.

1. I'm having troubles picturing how to place the radiator and grill shell after I channel the body. I want it to sit level with the body, but I just can't think of how to go about moving and mounting it without doing some chopping.

2. I wanna make a custom floor pan and I need some references or ideas on how to go about doing so, and, if anyone has done one, what was the best way of doing it?

I know some of this stuff may come second nature to most of you guys, but I have to think and make sure its the right way before I start cutting away.

1 you may want to section it...take your cut from the middle..when you say level with the body are you talking about lining up level with the cowl?

2 get some index cards and make your floor...then you cut plastic once!

I use index cards like crazy! Yes, I want it to line up with the cowl. I have saved close to 200 reference pics on my PC and there are so many different ways of doing it that its hard to pick whats best for my application. I don't wanna section anything, I just wanna channel and chop. I'm not quite confident enough to section yet. I'd like to keep the stock configuration of the grill, shell, and radiator if at all possible. I don't know if I'm gonna Z the frame either. And if I did, I couldn't do any of that until I find the tire wheel combination I need. I didn't realize there was gonna be so many different variables when I started cutting and sectioning stuff. I can see it in my head, just can't get it into 3D form.

For the new floor, after I cut the old one out and drop the new one in between the frame rails, how do I go about the rear stabilizer bar mounts? Or is that just thee dumbest way to go?? Maybe I'm just not ready for this build......

I just wish I could build like many of the pros here.

Its possible to keep a stock grill on most channeled cars.

You can mount it lower on the frame rail and lean it back a bit to sit even with the cowl.

It is easier to mock up the Zs with your wheels.

Id put some parts box rims on it for mock-up purposes.

Yep that's the beauty of customizing vehicles scale or real.

Every one thing you want to change, will make you have to change three others.

Its always fun to wander around the HAMB site for inspiration.

The rear bars should line back up after the channel. Unless you're Z'ing the frame as well, or dropping the floor board below the frame rails. Then you will have to make some custom mounts for them.

Go to the HAMB website and search what you're thinking about doing, or want to do.

There are quite a few builds in progress over there and quite a few parts making ideas as well.

Heck spend a few hours and rummage around the site, you'll definitely be chock full of ideas and information.

ON my way right now.
