Greg Cullinan Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) He wanted a model in his two favorite colors, green & turquiose. He also wanted both on exterior so thats my motivation. I painted shell as I worked on a 53' chevy that i finished tonite.I will post some progress pics as I make progress. **this will be about my 8th model in 3 months and the previous are glue bombs.I'm having fun and keeping busy but in no means know what I'm doing.I don't mean to offend the talent on these boards with my work.If theres a amatuer site you want to point me towards I appreciate it.** Edited August 29, 2009 by ponyxpress
RodneyBad Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 This is the place to be for young or old and Amateur to Pro. I'm just a hair above amateur?? Interesting color combo. I have no eyes for color combos tho. Did he pick on how to split the colors? anything that gets anybody into building is a good thing. finishing is even better. The more ya build, they better you get. Really, 8 in 3 months? Yaa Whoo. Build on and have fun. that's the name of the game
The Red Ranger Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I haven't seen any of your previous work, but that looks really great. My two favorite colors are Blue and Green as well so I may be a little bias. Also, don't sell yourself short man. As long as you love it and it's fun then thats all that matters right? Thats why anyone else is here, it's sure why I am here.
diymirage Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 first of....welcome as mentioned before this is a place for modelers of all ages and skill levels as a mather of fact there are more then a few skilled modelers on here who take great joy in helping the ones who come after then ahead (id mention a few but i dont want to leave anyone out) having said that...if i could offer up a word of advise (this is just my personal opinion so dont be afriad to ignore it) but i think it would look very nice if you could put a pinstripe in between the green and blue maybe a silver stripe to make it flow or red to make it pop also i think its really cool you get to work for/with your son i dont have any kids yet so i got to settle for my nephew if you have any questions browse our "tips and tricks" section and if you dont find the awnsers there just post a request (feel free to shoot me a PM if you cant figure it out and ill see if i can point you in the right direction)
Greg Cullinan Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Zuki- He picked the colors and I suggested blue exterior w/ a green interior but he wanted both on outside so I picked where to split it.I like the two colors together cause its different, Diy-I like the idea of a stripe in between especiallly since the paint wicked behind the tape and I need to clean up the transition anyway. The kit comes with siver flames decals which I,m thinking of using.I thought the green front end is a little overpowering. Red ranger- I hear ya, just feel a wee bit outta my league but thanks for the welcome.
BigGary Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 We're at all levels here, from "just getting started" to "been building models for 50 years", and everything in between. Case in point, Big Gary started building models at age 8, went to 1:1, back to models, then to R/C models, back to airplane models, back to R/C, etc., etc., etc. Gary

Red ranger- I hear ya, just feel a wee bit outta my league but thanks for the welcome. Always. I would say go with some sort of orange or yellow stripe or something along those lines that flow with the paint break. that way you can cover up that little area that peeked behind the tape.
diymirage Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 everyone has thier favorite type of tape but i will tell you right now, bleu paper painters tape wont cut it go to your local hobby shop and ask the clerk what he would use thats what i did also, as far as the flames, that might be a hair too much i have a challenger i build when i was younger and i put on both the T/A striping and the custom decals and it just doesnt look right but then again, its your car build it how your son likes it
Greg Cullinan Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 Eeclo thanks for the tape tip. I was using the blue painters tape unsucessfully and your prob right with the flames maybe the grille and bumber will calm that green down for me!!!
Greg Cullinan Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 I started the interior last nite and it was extremely diffucult to choose a color to go with exterior combo. So with juniors permission his ford is taking a purple bath. Going to go with green metal flake exterior with a greenish/gret textured interior. I am motivated to step up on this model and will try to be thorough with detail
Greg Cullinan Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Rubberized under carriage coating Textured interior Big boy v8 Dupli-Color Pear Green Flame decals Completed interior Thanks for looking and your comments are apreciated!
randx0 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 in regards to the paint wicking behind the tape try shooting some clear over the tape to prevent that and make sure to push the tape down really good . the painters tape that has the orange label is the one you want . your builds are lookin good but why is there an axe in the back seat? maybe there should be a hook hanging from the door handle too. in closing I think it is great that you are building with your son, they can be really inspiring as they rarely think inside the box!
