This truck was completed in 1997, when I was 19 and in a diesel mechanics program, but I've moved around a few times since, so this truck has suffered. I haven't been modeling much since then. I take my kits with me in the truck, so my models actually rack up miles, LOL. . Of course, every time I get started, I have to box the kit back up. I just never sat still long enough. So wish me luck.I hope to have it rebuilt before Christmas.

This was definately my favorite model, as I was able to put all I had learned at the time into the truck. And I had plenty of late 60's and early 70's truck to study while I did it. Well, that and I love Autocars. This is the Autocar Dump Truck chassis, which was built to pull AMT's peerless log trailer. It had a Black cab with the kit stripes. I'm keeping the color scheme, and I'm converting it into a dump tractor as I go. A tri-axle Fruehauf is going behind it. Feel free to leave comments or suggestions. Thanks for looking, and good luck on all your projects. Being part of a forum is new to me, but this should make it more enjoyable.DSC00242.jpgDSC00238.jpgDSC00236.jpg

Nice trucks you have there Crash. Tim, Thank you for the compliment. Working as hard as I can on it, and I will be taking some time this weekend to get ahead on its rebuild, although i have done a little more to clean up the frame. Thanks for looking.

I have one Autocar truck in my collection of 65 trucks and I made mine up as a logger.

I think I have made an error by using the big floatation tires on the front.

If anyone can say one way or the other I welcome any correction if need be.

I'm glad you turbocharged your engine, I did the same as I think 250Hp is to low for what I wanted. Now rated at 350Hp

Cheers

That Autocar is one of the kits I wish I had in my colection, it would make a great Tow truck. A friend has a real one . When i get some new batterys I will take a bunch of pics and post them .

Lee, considering the roads and the conditions under which a log trucks operate(no roads 1/2 the time), the float tires are a good choice. I chase these guys in and out of lumber mills all the time, and they do use regular tires as well as the high float. I used the High float on mine. As for the trubo, I wanted my logger to have some power. I knew if i ordered the real thing, I could use the extra power. that's why it has the Spicer Main and auxilary transmissions as well from the Alaskan Hauler kit. Then again, I love twin stick Autocars. never drove one though. The trailer was painted to match. Testors Light blue with black log bunks.

Lee, the last post was meant for John(Ultraliner). sorry about that. As for your looking for the Autocar Dump, I see they are somewhat plentiful on ebay. I wish I knew it was reissued when it was. i would've stocked up! I guess like all good things, it was discontinued. I have two or three though, because that Montone box would look nice on a few different trucks. Good luck on getting one though. I will say this, if you get the most recent issue, the Montone decals are not on the sheet, but the stripes are. I don't know why they aren't there, I wonder if Montone went under or something.

Sounds like you got a good selection of kits there. I just bought a bunch of trailers myself. I couldn't resist looking when I read that you were looking for one.

Go to this link. this is Phil Jensen's article in full on making a Holmes 750 out of the pete wrecker and mounting it on an autocar A64B. Close examination of the a64b and dump truck kits revealed to me that the chassis are exactly the same, minus the fenders, and the rear cross member, which the dump truck kit includes the tractor rear crossmember in the kit, but use the one 4 the dumptruck. I thought of you as soon as I saw this. Good luck if you ever find the dump truck kit.http://scalerealism.com/imagesb/tidew.html

That is a good article . In my fotki folders there is a blue peterbilt with a holmes 750 I did from that article only thing is I made the bed and used the peterbilt parts on the blue Reo. I plan to do two more one on a DM800 and one on a IH paystar 5000.
