JAFFA Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 another one in the line of impalas im gonna do, not finnished and a sacky paintjob... i was a little unlucky here, cos the silver metal i used did NOT like the clearcoat i used... first coats on the interior.. i used the 71 charger steering wheel, think it look good on this one note thet this is not the finnished interior, just the first white and black coats, so ill tidy it up a bit
mannyclub Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Thats cool! that will be a cool ride when its finished! Manny
JAFFA Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 last night i sat down to start finnishing this one, starting with the interior, wch by the way turned out pretty ok, then repainting the silvermetalic. so far so god untill i peeled of the masking tape.... it totally ripped off the green paint, clearcoat and primer down to bare plastic.... so im givin it the brakeliquid-bath next weekend. but anyway i try to see it from a positive perpective; now i can shave the doorhandles like i want t. (i didnt realize i wanted to before ive already painted it) thanks for the comment manny! appreciated
mannyclub Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 yw jaffa, to bad about the paint and tape problem that sucks! but least now ya can shave the door handles lol Was the pant cured? Try using a different tape to. I use 3M fine line tape for the main edge then use the blue masking tape on top of that. Plastic bag the rest of the car off to keep from overspray etc. Post up your pics when ya get it set. Manny
MrObsessive Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 You don't say what brand of paint you used................if you used a "silver" paint enamel primer, paint doesn't like to stick to that very well. I strongly recommend a automotive type primer (sandable) for your base coat. Also, scuffing up the plastic with 600 grit sandpaper helps as it gives the surface some "teeth" to bite into. DON'T use household masking tape for any paint job!! This will only make a mess and has enough adhesive to tow a car! I use Tamiya masking tape which is a low tack for two tone paint jobs or stripes............I then cover up the remainder with parafilm which is a little difficult to find these days.
S10man Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Another tip you might be able to use....rather than clearcoat over silver or chrome paint, which will cause it to dull and look like aluminum, coat it with Future. It will stay much shinier and can be handled without rubbing off or dulling.
Chromecop Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Hello fellow swede! I'm looking forward to see that Imp finished! __________________________ Lycka till med byggandet! Kanske en premiärvisning på CCM i Februari????
