Guest arni Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 (edited) In the early 90's I bought a bog standard Mini 1000 HL,it was a 1982 car that I bought for £300.Soon as I got it home I started working on it.The front fenders and front panel were removed,to be replaced by a one piece unit in fibreglass that included the hood. The engine was replaced by a 1275cc A+ unit that was bored and stroked to 1425cc,MG Metro inlet manifold,HIF 44 carb,RC40 exhaust ect. This resulted in a car with a 110BHP engine..but it weighed 1300lbs.. I also fitted Cooper 'S' disc brakes, negative camber front arms and 165x70x10'' tyres. It was glued to the road.. I also fitted an uprated alternator,as on main beam I had around 550 Watts!!!! I used to love meeting a car on a country road and give a warning flash for him to dip... If he didn't..I gave it main beam...LOL Edited October 11, 2009 by arni
B_rad88 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 wow, nice job on the mini! i have always loved that car! i wish i can get one here in the states! i know they exist here, but they are kinda hard to find and very expensive to buy! even for a rusted out mini can cost $1,500! you did an awsome job building that! it looks great! are those sports pack arches? with 10in wheels? lol, it looks great! and wow really? 1425cc, that has to be one of the largest bored A+ series engines! lol.
Modelmartin Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 (edited) Very Nice! I see you removed the door hinges and have the big taillights. Did you get the later grille for it? The Fujimi Mini kits have the correct grill and it fits very nicely for the MKII and later cars. I am a former 1/1 Mini owner myself. However mine had a stock 998 with a BMC rally cam and twin SUs on it. If I slipped the clutch a little I could haze the 165R10 Yokohamas a bit. I have no plans to duplicate my former Mini in scale however. Edited October 11, 2009 by Modelmartin
RodneyBad Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Awesome looking MINI. Motor looks Excellent. Paint looks great too. Very nice car and great work.
Guest arni Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Cheers Guys. Brad,I dont recall what the arches were now.But they were standard fitment during the eighties.I think the A series can be stroked to about 1480,but this involves a very expensive crank. As it was this engine was still delivering power at 7500 RPM! Andy, what I actualy done kitwise was to open up the Fujimi kit and graft on a scrap Tamiya firewall. This gave me the correct MK3 shell and and the chance to show the engine detail as on the 1:1 It was fun to do.
