oldskoolmini Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 It is about time there was a build off for old farm trucks large and small, forgotten wrecks to barn find restored pieces. even a modified car hauler from a grain truck or something. I will be converting the amt 1950 Chevy pickup into a 2 ton flatbed dump truck. more than likely it will be stock but i do want to bag it with the straight front axle and install stacks and chrome rig rims. THE RULES 1. Must start with untouched kit or one that is just starting. 2. must be trucks from 1920-1980 3. (Optional)write up a short story about the vehicle(life of truck or found and restored type stories. 4. must be fullsize truck. no minitrucks or imports 5. conversions to larger sized trucks are encouraged.(1/2 ton turned into a 2 ton. or regular truck turned into wrecker.) 6. must post pics of progress 7. the deadline is april 1st. extra time will be allowed. LET THE BUILDING BEGIN!!!!!
Custom Hearse Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Cool Jake! I've already started mine last night. I'm adding the tires and wheels from the '41 Willy's coupe. It may not end up being a rat rod farm truck, but we'll see... Looking forward to seeing yours started.
Custom Hearse Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Here's a mock up of what I'd like to do with it...
cruz Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I have been waiting to purchase this kit but if I get it soon I will be entering this little contest!!! Hosted on Fotki
oldskoolmini Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 that bedford looks sweet. and customhearse the 29 ford is looking great.
Custom Hearse Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 that bedford looks sweet. and customhearse the 29 ford is looking great. Actually... It's a '34... Thanks for the compliment!
Custom Hearse Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I've built up part of the flathead engine that came with the kit, but it seems a bit undersized. I may either build a different engine, or use a different flathead...
Custom Hearse Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 With the grill added, it looks like the engine is lost in there...
oldskoolmini Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 With the grill added, it looks like the engine is lost in there... bigger is always better!!!!!!! but a blower on the flattie or a larger v8. Its either go big or go home!
Custom Hearse Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Got a little more work done on the 34 today. I painted the frame purple, got the front fenders primed, and chopped the top 3 scale inches... Before... After... Before... After...
59 Impala Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Marshall, what if ya installed the Ardun heads on that flatty. That would fill out the engine compartment I think. Just a sugestion. Looks good so far. Dan

Looks good so far. Dan This kit didn't have Ardun heads, and I don't have a set... I wanted to put just a regular flathead in it with some speed parts. Never built a model with a flathead in it before. It's a new experience. Thanks for the suggestion though Dan!
Custom Hearse Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Got the wood bed stained dark walnut also tonight...

Custom Hearse Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 dang custom hearse you are a fast builder. i have yet to start. im still collecting parts and materials. I still have a lot of work to do on it. I need to fill in the top where the chop was done, assemble the rear suspension, build the interior... So on and so forth.

Custom Hearse Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I'm with Jake...still collecting parts and planning on what exactly I want to do Sorry... Do ya want me to slow down? The story behind the truck will take some time to write... On to today's update then... I got the fenders and grill shell painted and gloss coated. I decided to paint it black, using DupliColor T-100 Universal Black... I've finished the bodywork on the cab, and got it primed... This is the custom grill that came with the kit that I'm gonna use... Still gotta a lot of work to do on the truck.
oldskoolmini Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 i started on my truck yesterday. i had to do a lot of work on the cab cause of flashing, mold lines, and fitment issues. I also turned into a 3 window truck by gluing the corner windows in and puttying over them. i took pics but i lost my cord for the camera.
Custom Hearse Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I caught a head cold so I probably won't be doing any work on the truck for a few days. Hope you find the cord to your camera soon Jake, I'd like to see how it's coming along.
Jairus Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I was going to play too... but it seems like the premis is not totally understood as to what a "Farm Truck" actually is.
