I would say that the F-350 and the F-150 Supercab truck models that came from Monogram , then Revell are decent . Finding a re-issued F-350 dually may be difficult as they generally got built to display with big trailers . Ed Shaver

Yeah Mark, I think they are reissuing it. I really wish they would give us a modern heavy duty, but you already knew that. The '70's AMT Ford trucks did come with seperate I-Beams and IIRC,the metal axle goes through the coil springs. '79 was the last year of the true I-Beam front end. '80 actually began a C shaped beam that was a big improvement because they had an adjustment at the king pin to adjust camber. '80 was also the year the TTB began for the 4X4s. The '79 and earlier 2wd F-100s had to have the I-Beams bent to adjust camber.

but are they not still twin I beams with ball joints instead of king pins?

Roger, did those 70s AMT Ford truck kits have seperate I Beam front ends? I never built one or saw a built one back in the day, so I always thought the front end was molded to the chassis like the AMT 67-72 Chevy trucks. If they are seperate parts, (& I really don't know, thus the question), that would be the way to go, provided one could be found.

The Model King repop of the '79 F-350 came with a 2wd twin I beam setup, though it wasn't called out in the instructions. You get the twin I beams (molded together, in front and back halfs to trap a typical AMT metal axle), the radius rods, steering link, and rotor/caliper castings. Not the most accurate rendition of the setup you'll ever see, but very workable. I can't say if the other '70's AMT Ford F-series kits had this setup included, but the MK and even the Bigfoot kit with the '79 body included the vestigial I-beam parts. Though not entirely accurate, the parts are 'dumbed down' enough to where they should work in a '60's Effie. Heck, a '64 F-100 I-beam is almost indistinguishable from a '94 F-350 I-beam, anyway! In scale, only the fussiest of detail freaks would even notice.

Yeah, Mark, I know I'm not this Roger dude, but I hope my little rambling there helped ya anyway!

I've owned several Ford trucks, and while the twin I beam is quite robust, it sure likes to eat tires! My old '81 has the 'Traction Beams' that is, twin I beams with a differential... and it was suspended by leaf springs! An odd setup, but it worked beautifully! I think the 2wd Super Duties still use the Twin I beam setup, or at least they did up to the 2004 re-hash.

Thanx for those pix Randy. I had never seen the setup from the vans. Those AMT I-Beams are very correct looking. I wish that setup had been in their pickups. I may have to pick up one of those old vans. Which kit specifically was this setup in?

pretty much any of the ford vans cuckoos nest ,disco van , etc. the black ones are from the mpc juke box van just so you don't have to buy that one and be disappointed although I like the mpc over the amt I think it looks better overall . and avoid the revell vans because they suck .
