Sixties Sam Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 This project has been in the "On the Workbench" section for a while, but now it's finished, or at least done enough to display. Here's how I made the final details: The hatch hinge is medical tape which simulates a flexible plastic hinge like I used on my 1:1 teardrop. It's covered with two strips of 1/32" balsa. Door hinges are cut down R/C plane control surface hinges. Hatch supports are 1/16" alum. tubing with small R/C ball links on one end. Running lights are made from a 1/4" dia. disc of aluminum flashing bent into a taco shape and a piece of plastic glued in for the light. The tongue jack is made from a section of an R/C transmitter antenna. this allows the caster wheel to be raised and lowered, and there is enough friction for it to stay where you put it. The caster is alum. flashing, and the wheel is a slice of alum. tubing filled with a disk of balsa. The hitch on the 57 is made of wood and styrene with a ball from an R/C ball link for the hitch ball. The drawbar & ball can be removed from the square tube receiver like a real one. The safety chains are from one of my wife's old necklaces with craft wire S-hooks. I've had fun building this trailer (and the 57 Chevy), and I'm pleased with the results. I hope you guys like it too! If you want to build something really different and fun, try a teardrop trailer! old-hermit Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 That is cool Sam and looks real. The reading light, bedding and kitchen are perfect touches.
djway3474 Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 That is just 2 Kewl!!!! If the grass was not so big you would think it was real. I love this large scale stuff and I would build nothing but that, except display space becomes a premium.

crispy Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 That is awesome! Great work, it looks right at home with your 57! Chris
