MonoPed Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I'm tryng to find an alternate set of wheels for the ex-Monogram 427 Cobra kit. Don't get me wrong, I'm diggin' the twelve spoke Halibrands that come in the kit, but I have two on the shelf, and two more in the pile. One is going to be a full street car with no hood scoop and rear exit exhaust, the other is going to be a ficticious "weekend warrior" S/C that is going to sit on a racecar trailer behind an F-350 dually. I'd like to set these two apart, and some different wheels is a start. I'd like to find wheels that could have been used on a 427 Cobra back in the day. Any ideas? Thanx! Brian
Jairus Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Mini Lites found as optional wheels in many MPC kits would be a good choice. Lots of guys used them for racing back in the day. The most current kit to have them is the AMT 1973 Mustang kit.
Billy Kingsley Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I know it probably seems obvious, but there is a Cobra tooling around locally with Cragars and a Chromalusion-like paint and it's probably the most visually appealing one I've ever seen.
Daniel Peterson Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Replicas & Miniatures has some sweet Shelby 5-spokes that would be kind of appropriate, though not at all "stock" for a Cobra. The photo is from Scale Dreams, but they currently show out of stock. (Scale Dreams http://www.scaledreams.com/index.htm is a danged great source for all the nifty aftermarket goodies I like) Norm @ replicas & Miniatures can certainly fill an order if you contact him directly. If these really float your boat, let me know, as I think I have a set I would gladly donate to the cause. Norm also has some absolutely delicious MiniLites...

Dan, Thanx for the offer, but those looks like they would be more at home on a GT-350R project. Here's some pics of some alternate Cobra wheels. The first one looks like the optional wheels in the AMT 1:16 Cobra kit, the others look like Cobra Daytona wheels. Are either of these wheels out there in 1:24 scale?

Cobra coupe wheels may be available in resin...I'll have to research a bit. Harold Bradford's name keeps popping to mind...I'll get back to you.
Rob Hall Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Speaking of that kit, I'd love to find a larger diameter set (maybe 19") of those Halibrands..
