There were two versions of the Loewy coupe. First there was the Starlight, which had B-pillars and carried the internal designation "C model." Then there was the Starliner, which had no pillars and carried the "K model" designation. Except for the B-pillars, the cars were identical. Both versions rode on the Landcruiser's 120.5-in. wheelbase, in both the Champion and Commander series. Champion coupes were powered by the 85-hp inline Six, while Commanders came standard with the hotter 120-hp 232-cu.-in. V8. (See Reader's Rides for a prime example of a restored Starliner Commander.)

In '53, Starlight and Starliner coupes really stood out against the chrome dream machines that Detroit set loose on the streets. Both were continued into '54 largely unchanged save for a new egg crate grille.
