remingtonbox Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Would any one be up for a Bonneville buildoff? The last few years, in going over Bonneville photos, anything goes. You can put a jet engine in a Mustang, you can put a straight six in a Mazda Rx-7, you can put an Allison V-12 in a semi, the possbilities are endless. Oftimes, the spectators at Bonneville have pretty cool vehicles, so we could have a racer class and a spectator class... My other idea is a Pikes Peak Hill Climb group build/buildoff. The vehicles that enter this event run the gamut. Anything from stone stock to a totally modified semi... The Suzuki XL-7 from Japan looks to be the most modified and then on the other end of the spectrum is Rhys Millen's Solstice. Just looking for some variety in builds to maybe interest other members. Let me hear your thoughts.
Scalefinishes Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I'm in! I've been wanting to build a Bonneville car for some time. Now I just need to pick a car to build. Jameston
randx0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I like both ideas ,I like the pikes peak idea better .
highway Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Would they have to be fresh unstarted builds or could they already be in progress? I have a couple in progress builds that would definitely be good for the Bonneville build!

Mercman Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Here is one for inspiration for you. This one was done by Hollywood Jim. I think a Pikes Peak car would be a neat idea. Either way would be good. Lot's of diorama possibilities here also.
remingtonbox Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) What would be the ideal start date for everyone? I will not be here Aug. 1 to start it, as I will be at the IPMS Nats... would the second week in August to November or so work? How about a combo build? Bonneville and/or Pikes Peak... its your choice. Sound good? Oh, and Highway... lets say no more than 25% finished... Edited July 23, 2010 by remingtonbox
highway Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Oh, and Highway... lets say no more than 25% finished... That's OK, I may or may not be that far with the build I was talking about, so I'll let you check out the build and see what you think. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28849 I know it may not look like a typical race truck, but only I know the secret that's going to be under the hood! It would definitely give Bonneville a run for it's money!
moparmagiclives Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I have been out of the hobbie for about a year now what with moving and kids and all, I've been wanting to get something going for a few months now and was thinking of a lsr car, this would be a great chance to get started again. I'm in.
remingtonbox Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) I think this is a go... do I have to PM Gregg to get an okay to start a GB or do I just start it? Does September 1 to February 1 sound good? That is a solid 6 months... It will be both LSR cars and Pikes Peak Jarius... where the h*** are you? I figured you would have some artwork right up this alley Highway... looks good to me... but isn't that for the Cannonball CBP? Not that it matters, just wondering. I will set up the entry thread Aug. 1. Edited July 24, 2010 by remingtonbox
highway Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Highway... looks good to me... but isn't that for the Cannonball CBP? Not that it matters, just wondering. I thought that screenname looked familiar!! Now you see why I keep saying it is going to have a super secret engine! I know there are more than a few who are in that CBP over at SA that are here, too. That's the only thing I even keep up with anymore on SA is the Cannonball, it's much more fun over here. Of course, as work progresses, I'll do like I've been doing with build updates, but no one will understand until the secret is unveiled there why this truck is Bonneville worthy! In case any of you didn't check out the link I posted for Rob, here's the truck I've been talking about. I do have a little head start, but, as Rob said, I started this for a CBP on SA's site, and I still have a ways to go on this, because lately I've been working on the trailer it will be pulling in the other site's Cannonball race. I won't be running the trailer in Bonneville, though! By the way, Rob, what ever happened to your entry over there? It sounded like an interesting idea.
59 Impala Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I don't think that I'll be joining in on this CBP, but I have 6 LSC's that I've built over the years and I can post them if they would give someone an incentive to build different types of vehicles. Let me know and I'll post what I have. Thanks for the opportunity. Dan
remingtonbox Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Looks like you are a bit much past 25% now buddy... I ran out of time/motivation/... I may finish it yet though. Also, Rob must be the guy above me... I am Remington.

Oh, I seen this in your sig line: Proud member: IPMS Denver Rob Wolf I thought that was your name.
LDO Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Land Speed Racing sounds like fun. I'd take part in that.
