In response to roadapples subject on not being able to build all that is in his stash I thought I would add my thougths and share my situation.

About 2 yrs ago I too had my own epiphany about the number of kits I had at the time (about 60) when I relized my hands and fingers were in such rough shape that I had better start build the kits that I had been buying and collecting for 15+yrs (I was a Tamiya snobe, not any more though) . At the time modelling was an after thought in my life if I saw a kit that caught my eye I bought it and put it away, nothing more.

I had originally had a 40yr plan for my collecting buy game. I had the intention of getting back into building when I was too old to live the life I had been. (I was/am an exterme sports enthusiest, riding triple black diamond down hill mountian bike runs, BMX, etc.etc). I came to the relizeation that my hands/fingers are probablly going to be too damaged and crippled to be any good at building kits.

So at the age of 40 I started building again on a regular basis. I solved part of my issue of a growing stash with only buying/searching for kits that were of any importance to me as a kid, or of kits that I have given away over the last 20yrs. I now have a modest collection of over 225 kits. This includes my special 7 kits that stuck out in my mind from when I was a kid.

I also came to the realization that since I seldom build OOB and mostly kit bash, my collection should be worhtless when I'm gone.

I'll leave a note in my wil stating to give all my kits and building tools and supplies away here on this forum and on the other forum I'm on. That way MY kits and builds will go on as insperation for many years to come after I'm gone.

roadapple, has your epiphany turned into a root and take hold of you?.

Like george said try to stop thinking about it and just build, bash and buy. You must get a similar feeling as said by 59elcamino when you look at YOUR stash. Me, I get great pleasure from going down to my stash and supplies and know "these are all MY choices". I may not ever get around to building them all but at least they are all mine and when I have an idea or need a part I know where to go.

Don't worry, build and be happy now  .

Plastic Freak...I took the post off because the point I was attempting to make (rather poorly) was whether or not I actually needed to buy anymore models...NOT that I was unhappy that I couldn't build all the various models I still have. This was purely a realization that I already had plenty to keep me busy/happy in the shop for many years and plenty to give away later to friends made over the years (which will also make me happy). Perhaps it's best to let this topic just fade away......

I can't speak for anyone but myself(an sometimes I can't do THAT right! ) BUT it appears that particular topic faced the"Terminatory Key of Deletion!!!" and lost!!!!:D

RHOADIE, it wasn't a bad topic in MY opinion, just kind weird. But Hey, It WAS your call to do as you pleased, so if you did what you felt YOU needed to do, good for you! If ANYBODY had the right to "Terminatory Deletion" YOU was the man!:lol:

Been havin' a whole lot of fun buying OLD and NEW kits for years.

Got me a stash way big enough that I'll never come close to building them all :D .

I came up with the idea that if I was a collector then I could buy all I want and not have to worry about building everything or justifying for feeling guilty - 'CAUSE I DON'T  .

Now I have enough to pick and choose from, and the rest will go to someone else someday when I'm not around anymore - WORKS GREAT FOR ME  .

Oooh , now I understand. Sorry rhoadapple didn't mean to step on toes. ;)

By you starting your thread it did helped me to put my thoughts down in writing, so it's all good. Part of this hobby is about therapy isn't it? :P

It seems I've been more of a collector then a builder over the past 18months. Back in Feb 08 when I got full bore back into this addiction erm, um I mean hobby I only had 60 kits, all of them were Tamiya (I was a bit of a snob ;) ) . Since then I have accumulated another 165 kits (90% domestic) yet I've only managed to finish 10 with 10 more returned to the box.

Yet another example of why my "collection" will be worthless, most of the kits will have been started.

I'm hoping to be more active once all my home renos are done, around May, June 2010 and the house is sold.

Happy building everyone.
