disabled modeler Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 hi, i was wondering if anyone ever made a 1/25th or 1/24th scale steam or early diesel power shovel ? im interested in building one for a diorama load for a flatbed trailer..............ideas?.........thanks mark
dptydawg Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 SpeCast made a series of diecast Bantam crawler cranes and shovels. There is a front shovel a cable hoe a dragline and a salvage crane. They are all 1/25th scale and quite well detailed. They are all powered by Chrysler industrial flat head 6's This is my version of the cable hoe with some weathering and an operator and the front shovel, also with some weatheriong and an operator Thanks Carl
disabled modeler Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 thats sweet, i seen an old scale auto mag where i guy had built a really cool old steam powered on and was thinking be cool load for a lowboy trailer, or a salvage lot diorama. article said tit was a toyish hard plastic, very simplified kit of some sort maybe a promo type deal...p & e i think is what they called it. i wonder where they got it ever since i seen the photos. would be a really cool salvage lot claw if one could find one. seeing it made me think of doing a diorama of a salvage lot with old cars ect. laying around with a few loaded on a 60s or 70s era semi with flat bed trailer. if anyone knows which one thy used and if its 1/25th or 1/24th scale and where i might be able to get my hands on one let me know..............thanks...........mark
dptydawg Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Hi Mark These Bantam diecasts represent early 50's vintage models. The salvage crane comes with a magnet, orange peel clam and a salvage clam here is a link to some pics of it http://www.constructionscalemodels.com/pro...?recid=%2010412 One of these would work in well in a scrap yard dio from any time post war. disabled modeler Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 hi Carl, thanks for the info....we will have to check it out. i was thinking of one from the 50s or 60s era with a spider style claw head on it.even a 40s era one would look old enough for me,so it sounds like a good place to get some ideas.............thanks.mark
george 53 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Mark, Ron over at RMR resins makes a REALLY neet modern Excavator. It's 25th scale an it would look GREAT on the back of a low rider trailer. It costs about 90 bucks(IIRC) I got one of his first ones, but darned if I've built it yet. OH I remember now, HE DIDN'T give any INSTRUCTIONS with it!!!! I REALLY gotta get ahold of him and get some!
disabled modeler Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 hi george53, thanks for the info....id be happy to try to kit bash parts together to try to build one like i wish to build. id like it to be a 1900s to 50s style w/car type grapple or claw. like what one would see in an old salvage yard. think it would make a really cool load for a 1960s rig to pull. mark
