camaroman Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Does any one know why Revell has not rereleased the '67 corvette coupe they did a few years ago. The convertible keeps popping up every couple of years but to my knowledge the coupe hasn't. I had even forgotten about this kit until I was digging through the archives for a kit for a friend and found a copy. I just wondered if there was a reason or it is just an oversight. I hope Revell is listening and gives us a California Wheels version with a new wheel type (like Twisted Intros or something like that) in the same quality of the Calis NOT the Motor City Muscle. I was very disappointed in the wheels/tires they put in the '69 Camaros. They came straight from their diecast line.
larrygre Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Glenn, in the model kit business, everything is cyclical. Kits that never seem to go out of production are that way because of strong sales numbers. The 67 Vette ragtop is a good example. It's been one of R-M's best sellers since its introduction. On the other hand, kits that have had shorter production runs, say a year or two at best, are coming back for another run - the '56 Nomad, '67 Coronet R/T, and '66 GTO (all of which have not been seen in the product line since the late 1990s) are all in the Revell release plan for 2006. I'd personally like to see the coupe come back as well. I've mentioned that to Revell's product planners a couple of times in the recent past, and hopefully, we will see a return someday soon.
Billy Kingsley Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Not to high-jack a thread, but shouldn't it be about time for Revell's 41 Chevy Pickup and 66 El Camino to come back again? I can't find any copys of them at all around here, and I didn't see any at the NNL East either. And I actually want to build the El Camino as an El Camino, not just rob it for parts!
camaroman Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 Thanks Larry. BTW I really enjoy your work for the mags. How about getting gregg to do an article of YOUR build over the years. That would be some interesting stuff.
larrygre Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Thanks Glenn for the kind words. I have some stuff in the works for the magazine that I think you'll like coming later this year. And, they aren't all "strictly stock" either! 8)
bigphoto Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Actually it is out, kind of, it has been released as the Penske racing Corvette it is a modified re-pop of the "Black Rat" kit, it has some nice Torq Thrust D's. HTH
camaroman Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 Tim, That's right but that kit is 1/24. The kit I am referring to is the 1/25 version from, I believe, 1997 or 98. BTW, your right those are beautiful wheels in that kit. I bought two just for the wheels.
Guest zebm1 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Are yu sure yur not talking about AMT's '67 427 Coupe?
larrygre Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Glenn (and everyone), By now you should all know that Revell is reissuing the 67 Corvette Coupe in its 2007 lineup. It will be good to have this kit back, as it excellent in all respects. Note also that the coupe body is more accurate than the roadster, as I stated in my 1997 review of the original kit in "that other magazine". The front fender peaks are incorrectly sculpted on the roadster; on the coupe they are correct. Happy New Year everyone!
Stingray69 Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Actually it is out, kind of, it has been released as the Penske racing Corvette it is a modified re-pop of the "Black Rat" kit, it has some nice Torq Thrust D's. HTH Unfortunately the Penske kit won't work as a 67. The 67 Vette had different side "gills" than previous years.
camaroman Posted September 2, 2007 Author Posted September 2, 2007 Well its finally back. The new "minilites" are a mild disappointment But i'll get over it as soon as those beautiful ralleys go on my buildup of revell's 66 el camino.
