hellonwheelz3 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Hey guys. I'm almost ready to wrap on my '49 merc and do the paint on the body. I've spent many an hour priming, sanding, filing and perfecting the body to the best of my beginner ability. Can some of you guys give me a "shopping list" as to the things I will need to shine and polish my body (the car) to make it shine? I haven't decided on a color, but will be rattle canning it because my airbrush is a p.o.s. (is that allowed here?) Thanks in advance! If it turns out decent i may put it on here. Ben
randx0 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 post it regardless of the results . Read treehugger daves thread on spray can painting and you should be miles ahead of the game.good luck.
diymirage Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 invest in a micromesh polishing kit it should run you about 20 dollars or so it will give you sheets of mesh in 3200 3600 4000 6000 8000 12000 this wil allow you to wetsand a clear coated finish (or even bare plastic, i have seen this done on colour molded kits with amazing results) to a mirror shine as always, the better the body the better the primer the better the base coat the better the top coat the better the clear coat the better the end result (and the less polishing is required) one tip though, be very carefull when polishing i have done about half a dozen models and i seem to very often come dangerously close to polishing through the clear, top and even base coat to reveal primer or bare plastic on those tricky corners like fenders or molded in detail it takes some finesse but i think it is well worth the effort
