slant6 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 What do I use to glue metal to plastic? Super glue aint workin!!!
charlie8575 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Second the epoxy. Another choice might be Walther's Goo, which will bond almost anything. Charlie Larkin
Harry P. Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Super glue will work, I do it all the time. Epoxy will work too. Rough up the surface of the metal and the plastic a bit so the glue will have something to latch onto.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 What Harry said. I've done it a lot. Even metal to metal with ca.
slant6 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks guys. I usually dont have a problem, I use super glue on P/E parts all the time. This time Ive made my own "hinges" for the first and the ###### things just wont stay put. What kind of epoxy are you talking about?
shucky Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks guys. I usually dont have a problem, I use super glue on P/E parts all the time. This time Ive made my own "hinges" for the first and the ###### things just wont stay put. What kind of epoxy are you talking about? I recommend Devcon 5 minute epoxy. Seriously couldn't build w/out it. Bond is stronger than CA glue and it wont ever fog up the surrounding metal. Good luck!
dptydawg Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Did you use styrene or some other type of plastic for your hinges? The problem may be with the plastic not the metal. Superglue and epoxy doesn't stick well to some plastic types such as polypropelene. Just a thought Carl
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I've had great luck using ca to bond metal to metal and plastic to metal. This is an all aluminum hood with plastic belt line molding and center strip bonded w/ ca. The stuff you get at wall-mart. The thing is you need to sand or scratch it to give it something to bite to.
slant6 Posted January 26, 2010 Author Posted January 26, 2010 Thanks for the help guys. I went to Lowes the other day and picked up a few different adhesives to experiment with. I ended up using Locktite 2 part epoxy and it worked fantastic, although it took longer to dry than was promised in the instructions.
