Jeff Sauber Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Here's my take on the Jada diecast '40 Pontiac. Nothing too serious, but it was fun reworking this hunk of metal and adding on some of my own extras. I stripped the original "factory paint" with easy off oven cleaner, smoothed out all the body work and imperfections, carefully carved out some small channels for the Bare metal foil trim work, and added a set of scratchbuilt fender skirts made from sheet styrene. The intake manifold was scratchbuilt from aluminum and plastic as well as some rubber hose fuel lines. The body color is duplicolor deep blue metallic, and the roof is white pearl. The wheels are from pegasus and are the 24" lightning series.
Nick Winter Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Well Jeff I'm a sucker for A Pontiac, and this is a real beauty. I like seeing your builds,
outlaw035 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 that came out very "CQQL" ...i like to mess with diecast once and awhile...neal
Jeff Sauber Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 that came out very "CQQL" ...i like to mess with diecast once and awhile...neal Thanks, yeah I like fiddling around with metal stuff in between my plastic and resin models, but cutting plastic and resin is alot easier than trimming metal... It's ashame that a 40 chevy or pontiac isn't offered in plastic.....These things have a ton of potential.
AzTom Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 That's cool. I wondered if anyone on here played with the diecast. That's my main hobby, I do the plastic as fill ins. AzTom
bsoder Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 That is one hot Pontiac!..that paint looks awsome Iv'e been known to "modify" a few diecast...hey plastic metal, resin it's all modelin'
Steven Zimmerman Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Question on the paint....Did you use grey primer or black?..........'Z'
karbuildr Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Wow. I really like this Jeff, nice deep color and a real ground scraper. Gotta love a low Kustom like this one.
Eshaver Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 J , quick question . is the Pontiac still avalible ? If so who sells them ? that car would look so at home at my Amoco station too . On the other note , you workmanship shows well on this car- WELL DONE ! Ed shaver

Agreed...or any cars of the immediate pre-war vintage for that matter. A lot of them were very, very classy designs. My personal favorite of that vintage is the 1942 DeSoto. Charlie Larkin
