Rat Fink Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Hey folks, just wanted to say howdy and introduce myself. I'm just getting back into building again after about a 15+ year absence from building models. I'm hoping to pick up on some of the new techniques and tricks as well as all the new materials available. Man things have changed since my last build. Anyhow, my latest form of expression has been building guitars. I have done a couple so far a Telecaster (Rat Rod) and a surf Stratocaster. Problem is it's expensive and my wife is gonna kick my arse if I hang another guitar on the wall (I have 8 so far) LOL. So it's back to models...I don't know what it is but I just have a creative energy the requires me to find an outlet somewhere that is conducive to the serenity in my household. This should work....I think.
disabled modeler Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Hi Rat Fink..........Welcome back to model building and to the forum, Its a great place to start back up....Mark Edited January 30, 2010 by disabled modeler
Harry P. Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Welcome! I used to do custom airbrush illustrations for Dean Guitars. I have a couple of Dean Z's that Dean himself gave me... I can't play, but they sure do look cool!!!
jeffs396 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Welcome to the site Eric!!! I think you'll find model car/truck building less expensive than electric guitar building...I think

I know Dean as well, he is a very creative guy. I have 6 guitars (2 Deans - a Caddy and a MAB signature) Eric, The axes look great!! Big Daddy would be proud! Welcome back to the fold!
nails3825 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Welcome to the club and back into building ~ I just joined this site a week ago and can't stop looking at all the builds... very neat and interesting stuff going on here. Once you get back into building, you'll see you started right where you left off! My 1966 Thunderbird is the first build I've done in five years... it's like riding a bike Can't wait to see what you come up with. Nice guitars man!
Rat Fink Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 Thank you all for the warm welcome, nice to see I am among people with similar backgrounds. Funny but my next guitar build will be a Angelo Batio inspired design that features a P-40 Warhawk Flying Tiger complete with rivets. I already have the Strat here for that project...I just need to get better with my airbrushing before I tackle that. I just bought an Aztek A4709 on e-bay so I will need to get aquainted with it. My last airbrush (and i still have it) is an old Badger single action brush. This new one should be a huge improvment. I am 1/2 way through the 1/72 P-40 right now and the Nova is calling. I am thinking Candy Apple Red with flames. Pretty sure I know how to do that but if any of all yall have tips they would be greatly appreciated. I have to say I have been looking and reading at some of the projects here and yall blow me away with your abilities. Building a model to some may seem childish but as a model bulider I have to say you guys are beyond professionals.
The Modeling Hermit Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Eric I have a few fenders hanging around here too. (guitars that is) I hope you enjoy yourself here. There's something for everybody. Jeff I like the picture in your signature. I used to have a red 68 Impala convertible. I do miss it.

You might want to check out the MAB site http://www.angelo.com/ and the Dean guitars site http://www.deanguitars.com/ for the newest incarnations of the Michael Angelo Batio guitars. Dean now features the single guitar with the Jet Double graphics (as pictured with Mike and myself below). I can't wait to see what you do with the Warhawk graphics!! I have 2 T&C Vega's I used to use for t-shirts, but I heard the Aztek system works pretty well once you get acclimated to it. Good Luck!
crazyjim Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Just in case you missed my other post - 30% off airbrushes at Hobby Lobby this week.
Rat Fink Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 Thanks Jim.....and yes I missed that post LOL. I got a great deal on the Aztek though. I need to get a compressor now. I have one but it's a wee bit too big for airbrushing. I was thinking of the Testors Blue Ice. Looks to be affordable and should be able to keep up with what I'm doing. Any suggestions or is there a thread here somewhere that that's been addressed? Mr. C-rocks I've seen that guitar before, is that you in the pic with Angelo and did you paint that? I'm assuming you did and I have to say it looks awesome. Thats a lot of detail work. Again thanks for the warm welcome and the responses. Eric
crazyjim Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Hey Eric - you can get my old compressor for only 3 fresh, unbuilt, all parts there kits OBO. Here's a pic.

Eric That is me in the pic, and no Unfortunately I did not paint the guitar. It was done by one of the professionals at Dean. And the detail is incredible! But enough about Michael and Dean......Get Modeling! LOL!
Tony T Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Welcome! Cool guitars! My son plays, and he has a strat, a tele, and a Gretch...I've got a Fender Jazz Bass that I am fumbling with, and not practicing nearly enough!!
