wdcav Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I finally got ahold of a Revell SRT8 kit today. I'm wanting to take it the Hemi Orange route, but it's currently 12 degrees here and I have no other space to use a rattle can. But I can comfortably use my airbrush inside. So does anyone know a good stand in for the Testors/Model Master Hemi Orange they offer in the laquer line? I prefer acrylics if at all possible.
Guest Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Just decant the Testors paint into your airbrush jar. I spray into a Dixie cup, then pour the paint into my airbrush jar.
Rider Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I third this idea with an added bit, put a straw on the nozzle and spray down a paper towel roll into the cup. This cuts down on the mist and the splater/splash back. Then let is sit for a least an hour to de-gas with the lid off, oh yeah heat up the can in hot water before you decan it, this will help with the de-gassing.
Casey Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'm guessing the O.P. has to do his painting indoors, perhaps inside and apartment, and lacquers with lots of fumes are not an option, even if decanted.

Eshaver Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 If Acrylics are the way you wish to pursue , try the Color Smart acrylics avalible at any Michiaels art supply store . Hey .50c a bottle and they dry quick too. Ed Shaver

Doh! that's very true, never mind my suggestion. This is exactly the case. I can get by using the airbrush indoors. But right now with it being so cold out and me living in an apartment, I have nowhere to spray paint. Edited February 3, 2010 by wdcav
whale392 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 You live 15 minutes from me, and I was able to shoot outside today. If you need a hand, let me know.
