my 70 chevelle ss Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Good Evening, I hope I'm doing this right as this is my first post. I just got back into modeling about three years ago & was shocked at how far this hobby has come. Having said this I love Chevrolet's & is all I have ever built since a kid. I always wanted to build Alan Green's 63 Fastback Chevy II ever since I read about it in my 64 Car Craft Mag. Then I found out about resin & found that Speed City resin had it well I bought it & there she sits for the last two years I have no clue on the donner kit I need or even how to go about building resin models!. So before I sell it on ebay I guess my question is how does one go about building these resin kits?. As far as the donner kit & all that. Any help would be great! Thank You! Will,

Good Afternoon Rodney, Thank you first for the welcome back (I have to say it sure has changed both in products & money) second for your help. I'll have to try that model I have seen them on ebay I was also thinking maybe email speed city resin I really would love to build this but don't want to sink a lot of money in her if she doesn't come out I just don't know resin. It's funny cause I remember the models I use to build as a kid (if that is what you want to call them glue all over) anyway WOW I see them on ebay now going for like $300. & up I wish I had kept them in the box. Thank you again, Will,
dimaxion Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) To do the body and resin parts , soak in Whestleys Whitewall cleaner . At least a few hours . I soak about 24 hours . Unless I forget , if so who knows ?? I wash all with Ivory dish Soap . It does not contain lanolin for the skin on your hands . Do all the sanding and fixing before this next step . I apply Adhesion Promotor . Found where you see Auto Paints . It is for the flexible Car Parts . Basiclly the same stuff you are working with . I then Primer and sand with 600 or 100 or 1200 very lightly . It depends on which I find . I then apply Primer Sealer . Follow the directions carefully for both the Adhesion Promoter and Sealer , they all differ . I proceed with the color coats . I Clear Cote after two weeks to let the color thinners evaporate befor the clear . I then leave it alone for a month or so and apply Poilsh or Cleaner Wax . Cleaner wax is to remove any Orange Peel or dust . I hope this helps . This method works for me . It took decades to finalize and perfect . Thanx.. Edited March 17, 2010 by dimaxion
Modelmartin Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 That is a little over the top but very thorough, I will admit. A good wetsand and a simple soaking in Westley's, or bug and tar remover, or Prep-Sol type of paint prep product is all that is needed for most resin parts. I have built hundreds of resin models and have never needed more than that.
