'70 Dual Superbee builds...Finally!

Hey Cliff........you going to keep posting progress pics here? I see the 'other' site thread shutdown notice, and I sincerely hope you do not do the same here. I do not post in the thread there as I do here as redundant posting hurts my little brain. Your 'Bee builds are awesome, and a learning experience for me (as I have one or two of these kits going, along with god-knows how many other builds in-progress). If you do feel like shutting it down here too, please PM me and I will sent you my E-Mail address so that I can continue to follow the builds.

Brad don't worry mate, I had no intention of stopping the thread here. I've noticed that since I've been here that the members here seem to be much more genuinely enthusiastic than on the "other" site. Not that there isn't any genuinely real nice guys there, it just seems over the last year or so over there, interest has died somewhat dramatically & posting builds seems to be a waste of time & effort.

As far as the Bees progress goes it's been slow this week, mainly because work & gym time has kept me busy. That's ok though because I wanted to give all the scratch- building stuff I've done time to really set-up & get firm, preventing parts from falling/breaking off after I start painting, you know what I mean? Good news is I'm off tommorrow so I'll be getting in some good quality time @ the bench :-)

Cheers everyone, Cliffo! :-)

With all the detail and patience you're putting into everything else, I'm surprised you're not doing the interior in the same manner... but I know what you're saying :) Once it's complete it's hard to see the interior anyway ~ I would at least paint the intrument cluster and under dash pedals, since they can be seen if you peek in the side windows... just my thoughts.

Anyway, these builds are looking sweet! The detail, time and effort you put into the engine bay alone leaves me in awe ~ just an awesome job on everything so far!

James thanks for your input mate, it's always great to get feedback, well it is for me anyway. Maybe I forgot to mention it but yeh I'll be adding the instrument panel decals & detailing the pedals etc, just as soon as I get the other interior done, that way there's less drama with cleaning up etc. I probably should've been clearer too about what detailing, to the interior, i'd be doing ;-) . I'll be giving the sealtbelt replication a go, hopefully, when I find some good material to replicate the belts. Other than what's left to do on them + the belts there's not a whole lot more that can be done with these interiors, mainly because they're very basic, don't have seperate door panels & the level, or should I say, lack there of, detail, doesn't leave us with much of an option to do otherwise. Now if these Superbee interiors were like the 69 Dart interior... Well that would've been a whole other kettle of detailing! Lol! ;-)

Cheers & thankyou James! :-)

I understand completely Cliff.........with the time constraints and scratchbuilding thing. My Kenworth W900A is killing me at the moment, as I have stretched the chassis and sleeper (and believe me when I say the chassis is weak to begin with). I will also be taking the cab/sleeper mounts down some as it sits way too high (by all my eyeball measurements done on the real trucks I see) and that will weaken the frame some more yet! Good thing I have lots of Evergreen Styrene and chassis brace patterns.

The fuel-injected 440+6 in my 'Bee is coming along, and I have been printing out pics of your underhood detailing to help out with mine. As for the rear end, I am going to replace the leaf spring set-up with a 3-link/Watts link set-up, and run the front suspension either stock torsion bar type or create an adjustable coil-over set-up for it. Also thought about mocking up a Shaker scoop set-up (on my spare 'Bee just to see how it flows with the car) and using it instead of the Air Grabber unit....we'll see.

Thanks again for the inspiration and ideas Cliff; sometimes you may feel as though no one is watching or cares, but those are the times when someone is actually taking notes!!

Are you going to do just the lap belts, or will you install the shoulder belts on the inner roof panel? I don't think I have ever seen anyone install the ones on the roof panel. IT would be a great detail whether they were left hanging down or installed on there little roof mounted hooks. Something different for sure that will add some interior detail.

Brad check this out mate, it's the KillerBee project I was working on prior to these Bees builds. It stalled because I couldn't decide which motor to use with it, the new 6.1L Hemi or the original 426 Hemi. Shaker hood off the revell 'Cuda, it blended in very nicely! Also got it set up with a 4-link at the rear ;-)

dwc43... Mate I'm gonna give it a shot doing both, the lap belts & the overhead shoulder belts.

That is very nice Cliff! So I guess I can stop building now, considering you have done almost the very same build?

I will plod on with the 'Bee; just as soon as the KW quits being a pain (so much for a simple 'snap-kit' build....I have more into this than I do a lot of my glue-bombs!).

Lol! Sorry mate, about the KW & umm the 'Bee ;-)

Someone say flocking...

Got to thinking that maybe there was a little extra detailing I could do to their interiors. I happened to have some black flocking so I hit the floors with it tonight! Then I decided to add some door pins ( latches?? ), which I fabbed up from some styrene rod. So interiors almost finished, just gotta add the instrument panel decals & I've dyed some material black & should have the seatbelts ready to go tommorrow ;-)

Thanks & Cheers guys, Cliffo :-)

Oh yeah... those interiors look very good for the "lack of detail" you put into them  I'm really enjoying your enthusiasm on these builds! Awesome job ~ gives me a much needed boost of excitement for my battered 'cuda build/restore. Thank you!

Great, can't wait to see it. I don't think I have ever seen it done on any Mopar before.

Like the rear axle set up in that last pic. It's different.

hi !

you do a very great job on the built of the two super bee´s.

i´m working also on a super bee this time. do you have the same problem with the dashboard? it´s to deep to the bottom of the interieur and the place between steering wheel and seat is unable to seat for a person. is it´s right???

Thanks guys! Juergen brings up a good point about the steering wheel/colomn being angled much too low & in reality no-one could sit/steer with the steering wheel in that position.

Juergen it's an easy fix mate, here's how to fix it...

Here's a pic of steering wheel unchanged....

Here's the steering wheel re-angled...

This is what you need to fix the angle problem...a drill bit the same diameter as the steering colomn, that's it!

Just use the drill bit to re-angle the hole in the dashboard, higher, & you will have clearance for ( in reality ) a person to fit & be able to steer, correctly! ;-)

Hey guys, got around to fabbing up some sealtbelts. Made them out of some old work shirt material. The fibre from the shirt is very dense & seemed like a real good material to make the belts out of. I sprayed a section of the material with very very thin flat black, several times & let it dry overnight. Amazingly by today the paint had done the job & the material actually still has 85-95% of it's flexibilty & didn't get rock hard, as I might've thought ;-). I then cut it up into several thin strips & used thin strip styrene to replicate the buckles. What do you guys think, do they pass??

Looks good. Just need some chrome paint on the sides and bottom of the buckle and it will look as good as the real thing.

If you want to get real correct with them, all of mine had a brass slider inside of them that the belt goes around. So a slot on the side with the end of a brass bar on each end would really seal the deal. Probably going to far with the realism now .... lol. :)

Dwc, yep going a bit overboard with realism. I don't have any PE buckles & I've spent quite enough on these builds so far, so I won't be trying to get any. I thought about fabbing some up out of the thin styrene I have but it's just not necessary, in my opinion. The belts/buckles ive made are good enough & do the job of making the appearance of belts/buckles just fine. I realize there are guys out there who will go to the 'enth degree in detailing but I'm just not one of them guys. I'm completely satisfied with the amount of detailing I've put in so far & that's enough for me ;-)

Cheers Cliffo.

hi cliff !!!

many thanks for your fast answer with the dashboard problem. really good idea to drill the hole a little bit different.

Cliff, with regards to your outstanding attention to detail so far, I find myself in some agreement with dwc43. While I do think the brass slide would be going truly too far for this interior build (considering that it will never be seen), I do think however that the silver (either painted or BMFd) on the buckle would make it more realistic sitting in the interior (as that portion of the detail CAN be seen even with it hidden in the interior).

These buils amaze me and go far beyond my level (both time-commital and skill level), so take my opinion with a grain of salt and for what it is worth.
