Casey Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 fells, Can anyone tell me if Monogram has the 29 Roadster Pickup in their present line up ? It's not in the current Revell lineup.
Pete L. Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) if he's looking for the Monogram based pick-up then it could be a little more difficult to find. last summer it took some digging before i finally turned one up. i didn't think it was going to be that difficult the Revell kit is very easy to find still. Dave Dave, You're right, I'm looking for the Monogram 1/24 pick. Thanks for the info fellas. Edited March 23, 2015 by Pete L.
RatRod Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Every time I go to eBay, and type in "1929 ford" I see several of the Monogram RPU's!!! I sure wish they would back date that one!!!
Pete L. Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Every time I go to eBay, and type in "1929 ford" I see several of the Monogram RPU's!!! I sure wish they would back date that one!!! Agreed ! The Blue Beetle was molded in the coolest blue I ever saw in a kit ! Along with the scuba gear the truck was really something. I once had a mint example in my collection and was dumb enough to sell it...
RodBurNeR Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 If ya can't afford the real thing or find one.....clone it!
Pete L. Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 Bob, Nice work ! looks like 1963...Could you give us some info on how you built the "Beetle" ?
RodBurNeR Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 (edited) Bob, Nice work ! looks like 1963...Could you give us some info on how you built the "Beetle" ? Thank you! I got the paint as close to the original plastic color (one of two that I know of) by using Dupli Color GM Blue engine enamel. I used an Early Iron issue Monogram kit molded in yellow. I got the front rims from Dave Neighbors a local friend. The front tires are from a Monogram '59 Impala and I made the center larger and removed the rib so they would fit (just like the old ones but newer tooling) I got the kit from Dave Fletcher an internet friend. I had a junk Boss A Bone pile in my parts box, which is where I got the firewall, seats and rollbar. I used Li'l Coffin rear wheels and the spinners on all 4 wheels came from a Boss A Bone. The scuba gear was given to me by my friend Craig Turner and is made by Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland (it's resin). The surf board was from an AMT '64 Mercury Marauder. The red scallop on the board is actually a fender decal that I cut in two to replicate that on the box. The wood in the bed was a sheet of wood decal that I cut into strips and I don't know who made it sorry. The only thing that is incorrect about it is the valve covers which came from an AMT '59 El Camino. They are supposed to be Cadillac, but the ones I had have the wrong script and slight design difference. The intake and carbs is from my parts box and is the right one , but might be from a different Monogram kit. Here is the link to all photos. I hope this helps, it's much cheaper if you have good friends, spare parts and a few bucks. At the time I was looking to build one, they were going for $50 glued builts and $150 for unbuilt. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/1/2/finished-models/fomoco/blue-beetle-clone/ Edited March 26, 2010 by RodBurNeR
RatRod Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 (edited) I love Bob's clone, and if I hadn't watched him build it I would swear it was the real deal!!! Several years ago before I picked up the unbuilt originals pictured above, I did a custom clone using original parts from a glue bombed Blue Beetle that a friend gave me years ago. I started with the newest reissue of the '29 (molded in silver), and added the firewall, seats, bed cover, and engine parts, along with a set of tires & wheels from a Monogram Orange Hauler. I also had a set of drum brake covers from a Boot Hill Express that fit the rear axle perfectly. I used Dupli-Color bright aqua paint, and masked the valve covers, and painted the engine white, then re-plated the valve covers, and air cleaners with BMF. I had the original roll bar, but ended up making a new one using aluminum rod. This is what I came up with... Like Bob said, with a little help, and ingenuity something good will come!!! Pete L. Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 Fellas, Great cars ! I'm jealous...I'm on the hunt for a Monogram '29 pick up this weekend. I have the yellow issue but I already painted up the axles a different color than what the beetle calls for along with adding some moon discs to the wheels. any, great inspiration, thanks men !
Joe Nunes Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Great models of a real neat vintge design....and to think I gave a cleaned up model of the Blue Beetle away..do you (ouch! ) think I (ouch!) kick myself (ouch!!) in the (ouch!!) behinder side (OUCH!!!) once in awhile (OUCH!!!! ) Joe
RodBurNeR Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Bob, your clone looks fantastic! Thank you Harry!
