I have just ordered a KW W900 Australia to build but I am unsure of the direction to go. I generally do Log trucks or at least forestry related trucks but I think I want to build this one as a heavy haul. The problem is I am not much good at custom building stuff and a nice lowboy like a Fontain or something is way beyond my skills.

Anyways the truck will be a Day cab, you know me, I never was in to long haul trucks. It will definitely have some kind of heavy duty headache rack, possibly with a winch. I am looking at a couple from sour kroutz right now.

If any of you guys have some good ideas or pictures I would love to see them as I am kinda at a loss at the moment,

The good thing (or bad depending on how you look at it) is the Kenworth T900 Australia kit is basicaly a US W900 with some Australian looking parts thrown in the box. I asked over ao Tony's Australian truck forum on making this kit into in Australian truck, and I got a list of about 20 things that needed to change from the hood to the tail lights & everything in between.

I agree with Jim. If you are looking for a W900A with an extended hood this is the one. There was a blue W900A but it is quite rare and expensive. So the Yellow Blue Circle version is an excellent alternative, with, as Jim says some extra parts thrown in the box. I bought a couple of part kits of the Australian KW about a year ago form a guy off of Ebay. Very Oddly these were both missing the engine and transmission, wheels and the sleepers. They were more like glider kits. But for me were perfect and just what I needed for a couple of future builds. I still cannot work out what the guy wanted with two engines, wheels and sleepers from two kits. Still his loss my gain. I think I paid about $ 20.00 for them. The packing and freight cost more than the kits.

Good stuff, good stuff.

I am not able to find many pics of this truck or even the American version put together. Does any one have some pics of the completed trucks. I am not looking for box stock so dont worry about it.

Some of the ones I've seen have been heavily modified into Australian SARs or scavenged for parts for "Smokey & the Bandit" W900s (it's the correct cab). I have a couple on my "stash", but I won't be building them for a while. Ok, that doesn't really help, I know.

Jim and Dave are quite correct, so I will add a bit more

Yes the Blue circle kit is a good kit but far from acurate for an Aussie truck, but hey, they had a go and it has a few parts for the spares box,but mind you what truck has really been a kit that is 100%, apart from maybe Pocher's Volvo

here are a couple of pics for you,

First you can't get more Aussie that this, Kenworth SAR, (Short Aust Right hand drive)comes in a few configurations, but none more famous of sort after than the Gold Nugget version

Short hood W900, which 36inch sleeper, this has had a bit of custom work by Klos Bros http://www.kloscustomtrucks.com/home.html

and then you could have this, with 30 inch sleeper ( and change the rims to spoke)

Then you could do a W900B with the same kit, (square headlights)This is a NZ truck, which is a rebuilt W900A

Reality is if you are going to build a Aussie version, changes will have to be made to make it anywhere acurate, or build it out of the box, still give you a almost Aussie feel, and does build to a nice truck, but if you are building a day cab, then you need to shorten the frame a bit

I should have specified that I just happen to get that kit because it was a good deal. I was not necessarily planning on building it as an Aussie truck I thinking more of West Canadian heavy haul. Those pics did give me some ideas though so I do thank you for them
