  1. 1. Resin IH 4070a Day Cab Conversion

    • Yes - I would like to see a resin 4070a daycab conversion.
    • No - I have no interest in it and don't think it would go over well at all.
    • Don't care one way or the other.

Hey Guys, Anybody out there interested in having an IH 4070a daycab in resin ??? Let me know what you think. :)

Eric, I've found that there are a bunch of lookie-lous on the forums and very few respond. I have a tendency to look as well without responding. I understand how you feel about spending the $$$ to cast the cab, only to have a few people buy it (that's why I don't print decals until someone orders). I have done 1 or 2 Transtar daycabs in my time, but I would buy a couple of them to revamp a few older builds. I hope to get back to building once again since I have most of the bugs worked out on my decal store and have plenty of building to catch up on.

Were you planning on the 4070A or B style? Either one works for me.

I could see some of these selling. However, it might be a better seller if either the 4070A or the Transtar 2 kits were re-issued. Then again, there are lots of things that even if the kits never get re-issued, aftermarket accessories could still sell very well for them.

Hey Eric, I don't think they would sell very well. Most builders would rather cut the cab they already have (being that they need the whole 4070 kit anyway) than pay additional money for another cab.

I'm not sure you would recoupe your time and cost of supplies in this venture. If I were you, I would be searching for things that have not ever been offered in resin as that type of stuff usually sells well.

Hey Ben, Thanks for the input, you might be right. I had thought you could use something like the re-issue Chevy Titan as a donor kit ??? Keep from having to use the old hard to find 4070 kit at all. :(

Hey Eric, I guess if someone wanted to build a daycab 4070 bad enough they could use a titan kit but i'm thinking if they wanted to build one that bad, they could just buy the 4070B kit on Ebay. They're still on there all the time. This is just my opion, I could be wrong, it just seems like it be that way?

You can't just go by views, I believe that also counts non members who read the post. You could have had a bunch of people looking for the kit, looking for 1-1 conversions etc who clicked on the link and left seeing it wasn't what they were looking for.

It would also be helpful to know more about the conversion, whole cab usable on a donor chassis, shell only requiring the guts from a kit cab, just a backwall to fill in hole left by the sleeper etc. If you have a master a photo would be nice, or failing that a pic of a 1-1 truck so people know exactly which truck you are discussing, and honestly with a few exceptions I have a hard time keeping trucks named with a number straight.

Personally I would think the truck would be a decent seller, but considering the likely price you would have to charge for a complete cab, finding the old kit on ebay would probably be decent competition. If Round 2 continues bringing back 2 or 3 truck kits a year as they have been timing could definately work for or against you.

Hey, Thanks for the input, you know I guess I should have posted some pics of the master parts, I will try to do that asap. It would be more of a trans-kit so you could use maybe the chevy titan re-issue as a donor. Cab, interior tub, dash, grills, bumper, under door trim / steps etc.

My feelings exactly.

Porky, take a look at my thread on the Pacific nose conversion for the Paystar. I think something like that might really generate some interest. Everyone has at least a couple Paystars in the closet, and in my opinion, a Pacific P510F is WAY cooler than a daycab 4070.

Hello, I saw the post you made on the Pacific P510F, that is a cool looking truck, You make up the hood and send it and I will copy it, no problem. :)

I like the old IH cab overs so I think I am gona cast the 4070a daycab conversion but it will be as a trans kit so it can be used on a re-issue Chevy Titan as you can pick those up cheap and will take out the need for paying out the butt for one of the old transtar kits. May even do the 4070b the same way. Also a CO4000 is on the way and then maybe a 4090 Turnpike Cruiser.:lol::(

I did once send some stuff off to be cast by someone, wound up with no master, no parts, and no credit for the master. No reflection on you whatsoever, I know there ARE honorable casters out there, but that only has to happen once to leave a REALLY bad taste in someones mouth. If I do either the Pacific nose, or the fiberglass SFA paystar nose, I will probably cast it myself.

Hey Dave

Thanks for the heads up, I have saw that conversion before, but I dont like the way the headlights are in it,,,they are tooo big and maybe in the wrong place or something, just dose not look correct ot me and the under door steps are not there or correct. Just my thoughs on it plus if I cast them I can build a few B) Not sure on doing the 4090 yet anyway but it is one I would like to do at some point, thinking I am gona do the co4000 though. John ( the guy that made the daycab 4070 has it just about done )

Hey Falcongeorge,,,That is a cool looking truck, What model is it ???

The captions on the photos on hanks website say its a "210". It would not be a very difficult conversion. Use the hendrix cab from Spaulding Shipping, a set of fenders from a Paystar with some extra tread-plate, and make a grill shell and butterfly hood. Yea, I saved that photo for a reason. LOL. I have NO TIME for model building right now, its spring so yardwork time, & I have a 1-1 model kit of a Chevy II out in the garage, and a 14 month old daughter. but hopefully, there will be some more free time soon.

It could be a 210, or a 230, dependant on how heavy it was built. It would have a sufex "D" it it was diesel, and a prefex "F" if its a tandem.

These were replaced by the Paystar.
