Bowtienutz Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Is Randy still casting? I haven't seen anything from him in years.
Wagoneer81 Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) I'm quite happy this kit is being reissued, it has sentimenal value to me. This was the first model I built, with the help of my father, when I was a kid. I lost it in a house fire in 1997, along with the rest of my 200+ kit collection, not to mention the house! I have been quite happy with Round2 reissuing the classic kits, and have already told the owner of my LHS to hold one for me when they are released. This has been one of the hardest kits for me to replace, along with the Monogram 1:16 scale tractor trailer kits. I'm far from being a rich man and can't afford the high collector prices on ebay these kits go for, especially the trucks, for a factory sealed kit. I build my kits and don't see the point in leaving them sit on a shelf. By the way, if you're wondering why I said factory sealed referring to kits like these, I want one I know is complete! Funny thing there, Highway ol' buddy; the 1/16 General Lee was my very first build as well. It's the one that started it all! I think I was 6, maybe 7 at the time. Sheesh, that was 30 years ago! I got it and a 1/25 Daisy's Jeep for my birthday. I spent many an hour at the dining room table with a tube of Testors glue and my Boy Scout pocket knife... I still have that knife... The General and the Jeep went bye-bye many years ago...I forget how they met their end... I completely agree with you in that I am tickled-pink that they're re-issuing all these old kits, with them and the new stuff coming out, it is such a wonderful time to be a model builder!!! Call me a sentimental old fool but I know I'll end up buying and building another General Lee just for old time's sake. Edited May 13, 2010 by Wagoneer81

Nick Winter Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Is Randy still casting? I haven't seen anything from him in years. Never stopped. Just took a 2 year break in '06.
LUKE'57 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 but the folks who are convinced that the 'Dukes of Hazzard' was a documentary are still REALLY annoying. But it was a documentary, it was, it really was..........well, it sorta was...kinda. Except that the real Duke "boys" weren't Dukes but Rushings....and the General Lee wasn't a Dodge Charger but a hemi powered Chrysler 300 named Traveler after General Lee's horse......and there was only one of them. He ran an archery business and a few other interprises including something along the lines of a not quite legal liquid refreshment business just up the road from where I live. I was too young to know him but later became friends with his sister. He was something of a local hero who became very well known after the movie "Moonrunners", starring Robert Mitchum's son, came out.

LUKE'57 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 To be honest, that was three wives (one only borrowed), at least twice that many girlfriends, many hard miles and 36 very long years ago and I can't say for sure. I remember it being a lot darker story than the Duke Boys on TV and can't remember if it had that voice over narration or not.
dentedfender Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 This is news to me. Just joined the board I have always wanted this kit. Maybe a couple. One to build and one just for the engine etc. Originals beyond my price range. I am a happy camper.
Greg Myers Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 That's what we need another DOH kit, how much of this stuff can people own? Can't have too many.
highway Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Can't have too many. I think it might be nice to have some nice pics of your Charger in the 1:1 Reference section!!
highway Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 How do you access the 1:1 Reference section? It's on the main forum page in the Model Cars section. It's about the fourth section from the bottom, and it's just like posting in any other section.
larrygre Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 A couple of online sources are listing a second 1/16 scale kit as "Ghost of General Lee." Same kit with a clear body perhaps? Gee......! One larger scale thing I would personally like to see Round2 reissue is the very first 1/16 kit MPC ever did, the '63 split window Corvette Sting Ray. Not been seen since the early 80's. A VERY nice kit indeed.

Not been seen since the early 80's. A VERY nice kit indeed. I second that! - Especially if it's the 3'n 1 version, and not just the "stock": I really need the blower-setup (or the entire engine for that matter) from one of these for an AMT 1/16 '55 Chevy I'm planning... It would also be cool to see the 73(?) Charger Street Machine based on the same NASCAR tooling as the General Lee reissued
Greg Myers Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 From Horizon Hobbys: "On the 26th of October, 1979, the famous Dukes of Hazzard "Ghost of General Lee" episode aired on TV. It featured Rosco getting scared out of his wits by a glowing General Lee charger, back from the dead, or so he thought! MPC has created a special kit of the infamous ghostly General Lee from this episode, and it features glow in the dark plastic parts!" OH BOY !

I seen you started another thread that says the ghost one is going to be 1:25 with the same quote as above.

highway Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 All the sites list it as 1/25 and sadly no pictures. Ok, thanks for the info, because I was getting confused, which doesn't take much! I was thinking maybe they were doing it in 1:16 scale, too, since this thread is about the 1:16 scale General Lee coming out later in the year.
ZIL 111V Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Nice to see this kit back. As already mention by Larry & Chris. Would also be great to see MPC's 1/16th '63 Vette in original 3 in 1 form (first early 70's edition).Odd that this beauty was never reissued from the late 80's to today. Last time I got this one was in 1984 in Street Machine form: Blower/Centerlines and... corny graphics! Good old MPC 1/16th 70's Charger Stock Car would also be nice...with generic Nascar type decals:(like MK 1/25th MPC stock car kits) original wheels/tires back & ... "clear body" like the good old days ,also made this one in the last 80's Street Machine version, another big MPC kit gone since the mid 80's

TimSherry01 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Hey Guys I'm new to the site and I wish I had found it sooner. If some of you are interseted I make just about every dukes of hazzard decal from the general lee to about all of the police cars. Some from 1/64 to 1/10 scale. Here is my website if you interested. www.hazzardousdecals.shopping.officelive.com I also have the picture of the box art of the ghost of the general lee. My bud Jim posted it over on the www.cglfc.com. I'll post it when I get a chance
MoparWoman Jamie Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Guys, the box art for the 1/16 is just about the same I belive. Also seeing on Tim mention the Ghost of General Lee model box art, here is that box art as well..
Plasticfanatic Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I have an original 1/16 DOH built up...but in bad state of preservation, Did they fix the front wheel opening to the correct street car shape like is shown in the box art? In my model the front wheel arch is round (like NASCAR era Chargers) and not prototypical correct, it could be easily fixed to the right stock shape with plastic stock and putty but then modifications will have to be made to fit the tires correctly. Will try to post photos of my "junker" model....still, if this model is reissued it will be a welcome addition since it is quite a nice model in terms of it's racing chassis, engine and quite good details for a vintage race car.....mmmmmmm...K & K Insurance Charger come to my mind, hey, even in Salt Lake record breaking car look.....love that car!!!

I'm not sure if they did fix the wheel well issue or not. I have a 1/16 General Lee project in the works also here at this link http://www.cglfc.com/wforum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24174&start=255 which I would be glad to start posting about over here the updates on it when I get back onto the project of it though.
