BIGTRUCK Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Starting with this older issue of the 1970 Chevy , I'm trying my hand as a mild custom... with the all the problems on this body has from the amount of glue the original builder used , and having been re-issued, I'll try something I've never done...so here goes nothing ...................
Chromecop Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Good luck saving that old glue bomb!!!! I'm sure You've got both the skill and the right spirit to make this "ugly duckling" into a beautiful kustom-swan!!!!
Steve H. Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 You're a VERY brave man! I think I'd pass on that one...
bsoder Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Well Ken you have your work cut out for ya!! but why not it'll be great practice!! ....B
Guest zebm1 Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hey Ken, got any of those old Amt Styline kits? or perhaps yu ken talk some of us outa some of those old custom front and rear end plastic pieces.
George Christy Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 the Kit isnt that bad Ken I have Built a lot worse georgec
BIGTRUCK Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 Well I got this far without a hitch...used the parts that came with the kit so far,had to cut out the wrinkled areas and bring back the driver door bottom thanks to evergreen products , this is the first skim coat of light bondo and sanded to shape....all chrome gone including door handles....tire choices could be low-riders out of the '70 monte kit or maybe some hi-tech Aoshima 19s ...thats it for this week...gotta go to work if I want to play....
Chromecop Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 I'm impressed!!!!! All that work in such short time, not bad!!!! That'll look nice when done. Keep it up!!!
ratrodder Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 never say never. nice restoration...ratrodder
BIGTRUCK Posted January 20, 2007 Author Posted January 20, 2007 Tried some 70's skirts but didnt look right...trimmed down these parts box skirts and found a set of these wheels mounted on Firestone supremes....I'm not sure if they are SMP or promo wheels they have the fat splined axle...
George Christy Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Ken your making some great progress on that Kustom, any idea what color it will be? GeorgeC
Chromecop Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 That one's coming along just fine ! But, personally I'd leave the skirts off or change to some kinda caddy-inspired flush-mounted skirts instead, that'd look more contemporary. Still, I really like that car alot and I can't wait to see it finished!
BIGTRUCK Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Painted transparent blue over gold , let it cook for awhile , maybe add the clear later this week. Adjusted the stance lower , but as my luck would have it, the hood had a fish-eye....hope when I re-paint the hood it matches.... Thinking a white for the interior....engine out or the revell 65 chevy convert....
George Christy Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Ken the paint looks really good, I like that color GeorgeC
Daniel Peterson Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 A white interior would sure work, given the vintage of the customizing style. Maybe some blue piping or accents of some sort to tie it to the exterior? I don't build customs, but boy do I like seeing them done by others! Add to it the fact that it's a restoration of a dog-meat built-up, and there's the one-two punch that really gets my attention!! Great work!!
Chromecop Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Yes, a white or sand-color interior with a dark blue piping would look great I believe. The exterior color looks great and suits the big body perfect.
Steve H. Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Thats coming along very nicely, especially considering what you started with! I concur... White interior w/ blue piping, blue carpet... Can't beat that color scheme.
BIGTRUCK Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Daniel Peterson says piping...and that was a super idea...I found some Detail Master flocking in the color I wanted then found some thicker thread for piping in a darker shade of blue at hobby lobby....its a long way from done and the interior will take a little longer , but its moving....and thanks to all for the cool comments
BIGTRUCK Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 Last up-date, then shes done....custom dash out of the 58 chevy..custom steering wheel from the 63 ford...the outside is basically done , get the engine and exhaust buttoned up and call it a day....cant decide if I should put some color keyed scallops on it or leave it alone.....
Guest zebm1 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 From tha rear end it kinda looks like tha Millenium Falcon Ken.....swoopy custom..>>>>>>>>>>
JAFFA Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 man, that looks GREAT so far those skirts really looks good!
