rronning84 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Does anyone make a day cab insert for the Revell W900 Australia kit. I am not adding the sleeper and will need one. However this truck will have the very large sour krouts rack on it so it may not matter. Thats another thing. When is Sour Krouts going to start getting some of that stuff back in stock. They would make a fortune just off me.
Jim B Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 How about this one? Auslowe W-900 Day Cab Panel If you do get it, let me know how it works. I might need one in the future. Your best bet is to email Chris. He usually has more stuff in stock than listed on his Web site. And if it's not in stock, he'll know to put in on his next order from KFS, Auslowe, Mo'Luminum, or where ever.
Madd Trucker Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 if you have the kit there is onein the KW wrecker kit Imay have one not sure as Ihave to many on the bench right now but will get back to you
falcongeorge Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 This piece is so easy to make. Just cut a piece of .040 sheet styrene that fits the hole in the back of the cab, cut a hole in it for the back window, take a piece of .030 evergreen half-round, glue a bit of it down with liquid cement and let it set. Once the end is firmly glued down, work your way around the window with more liquid cement. To form the corners, apply the liquid cement directly to the half-round to soften it so it doesnt break, and pull it around a drill bit that matches the radius at the corner of the window openings. I have used the same technique many times to make chrome trim or window moldings for car kits. You should be able to turn this piece out in an hour, start to finish. Beats waiting for a month to get a resin piece...
Jim B Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 It does sound easy. How big do you make the window, and where do you put it? Is the back of the Kenworth cab smooth, or does it have indentations?
falcongeorge Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I dont have a Revell KW kit handy, but here is how I would come up with the dimensions. You have a nice, clear photo of the Sourkraut piece right? Print it out. Now you measure across the hole in the back of the Revell cab you have, then you measure across the cab insert in the photo from the sourkraut site, right? Calculate the percentage needed to increase the size of the photo of the insert from the sourkraut site to make it big enough to fill the hole in the kit cab, then measure the window opening in the photo, and multiply those dimensions by the same percentage #. Easy, no?
falcongeorge Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 When I look at the photo of the Sourkraut piece, it doesnt even look like there is a raised molding around the window. You could probably even skip that step, which would make it REALLY easy.
