I was going to a hobby shop about 60kms from my place, and my right front tire on my car blew apart on the highway. luckily, my car came with a full size spare, and was able to mount the mag wheel to it. What I don't get is how can a tire blow apart? I did'nt hear anything.

Hey, Rusty Nail, maybe it was a rusty nail! Seriously, just like grimreaper said, it could have been anything. By the way, I seen your CB handle in the CB thread, I just hope you don't take offense to the joke!

None taken, Matthew. There was atleast 3-4 huge rips in the side wall of the tire. It's like the side of the tire blew out.

A MayPop brand maybe? :) may pop at any time.

Little round rubber things? :o or a tire?

Seperation?

Reverse rotation?

Broken belt?

Road Hazard?

Or mystical gremlins?

That sounds like you hit something and didn't relize it or maybe you hit a curb or something with the sidewall. You could have hit a curb a couple months ago and broke one of the belts in it, and it waited till today to completely break and go KABOOM!

LOL..............

Sorry, that was funny tho.

On topic.

Front tire blew? Hairy ride.

Glad ya controlled it.

A Faulty tire?

Sometimes bad tires will get a bubble on their sidewall and not always on the outside

side..

I should also mention that I put these tires on just yesterday for the first time since buying the car. I also did'nt hear anything. The car just started pulling hard to the right.

Where they new, old, what is the story?

If they were used, did they get on the same side of the car? or if the mounted on new rims were the mounted same side out and the put on the car the same side as previously run.

You can't reverse the rotation of a radial tire once it's been run in one direction.

If they were little round rubber things versus a real tire could make a big difference too.

How old were they, how were they stored?

For something that seems simple a tire is a very complicated thing and it is the only thing between you and the road so the tires are the most important thing to pay close attention to.

I don't know. They came with the car.

was it square IE all four the same size?

Probably got one or both or all them on the wrong side and reversed the rotation of the tire.

A radial will ware in and the belts will stretch in a certain direction sometimes, especially with little round rubber things when you reverse the direction it will unravel the tire essentially, which is what it kind of sounds like happened because that is where it’s the thinnest, the most directional (rotational) structure is, and the fewest number of cords that hold the tire together – the sidewall.

If you don't know what direction the tires were run previously, or how they were stored you probably just want to scrap them all for a new set of TIRES and not little round rubber things.

Because you have MayPops, and another may pop at any time.

Yes. All four are the same size.

Yes. All four are the same size.

so you have all more chances you have one more or three more going the wrong direction from what they previously ran, so it wasn't a belt seperation per-say but sidewall cords either flat failed or delaminated - most likely.

The spare tire that came with the car is a full sized all season tire. I was able to take it to the local tire shop and have the mag wheel removed from the flat tire, ane mounted then balanced on the spare.

Okay, but you still don't know what direction it was run. If it was run before then you are probably okay on that tire till you get some new tires, because you still don't know if the other tires are all going in the proper direction - it could happen again.

Is the tires now all the same size? You probably really don't want to run a miss-matched pair especailly on the front.

Yes. All four tires are the same size. My car is rear wheel drive.

You can not run a directional tire in the wrong direction. Now when you get into regular radial tires you can. I do not know where CAL got his information? I am a cheap skate when it comes to buying new tires. I by used radial tires all the time and it does not matter which direction they are installed. I never had a problem with the direction they were installed on the car. If what he said were true every radial tire would have to be marked as to how it was installed when new.

For non directional radial tires. They are not directional until you use them in a certian direction for some time, then they are directional. The cords set in that direction and if you reverse it you can have seperation.

Which means you buy little round rubber things and not tires. :P

WOW, that's a little harsh. I really don't think KARMA would try to kill him because of a few trades gone awry. Get a life. Somebody do an IP check on him and find out who he is.
