Ben Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I am searching for a good kit to rob parts from and I was wondering what transmission and rear end come in the Revell, 2 in 1 Mustang Mach 1 kit? I know it comes with a 351 and a 302 (which I need) so i'm hoping it has the trans and rear end i'm looking for as well.
Casey Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 It has a 4-speed manual trans and 9" rear end from memory. I don't recall if the top of the rear end is molded open or not like other early '80s Monogram kits were, but it does have the leaf springs, rearend, and driveshaft molded together as one unit.
Guest promodmerc Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) The top is open. Ben, what year is the Mustang you are building? This would help a lot. Edited April 24, 2010 by promodmerc

I do think the top of the diff is open, it is the same as the older Boss 429 and Boss 302 kits from the 80s.

Hey Dan, i'm building the Revell 1978 Monroe Handler Mustang II kit. I'm just trying to add a bunch of detail and make it correct to the real car. I have been told it came with a 302, a Borg Warner 4 speed and an 8" rear end. I was hoing to find one Ford kit that has these items in it. I thought I had the Mach 1 but checked and it was the Boss kits I was thinking of. I thought that newer Revell Mach one kit might share a lot of the same parts as the Boss kit but wasn't sure.

To Revell's credit, though, the Mach 1 is new tooling, with the new 351C engine and a Mach 1 specific interior and the other Mach 1 specific parts. The 302 version buildable from the new Mach 1 kit is a straight reissue of the older Boss 302 kit.

I'm pretty sure it is a 4 speed. Edited April 24, 2010 by promodmerc

Casey Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 The Revell '32 Fords kits could provide a nice 302, but IIRC they all have auto (C-4 or 6) transmissions. The Revell Boss 302/Mach1 kit is 1/24 scale, so I think it would look too big in the small Mustang II body. The AMT '67 is a great suggestion for a parts donor kit, too.
