B.Beachum Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 here's the 1/12 '57 frontfender close to being like the real car,.. Some sanding ,and void filling but it is about 95% done,..I have a few spots where the mold lines popped up,....I think I heard about a Super Glue trick for them??? Thanks for you help, Barry Beachum
Steve H. Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 not super glue... The trick you're thinking about is to put liquid cement on a mold line so it pops up, then sand it back down. Fender work looks good!
B.Beachum Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 The primer dried fast because I had left the heat on low about 82F,so I moved it in the house and it is still fuming alittle.I will need to do some spot primer after I work the lines alittle more,...I'm getting kinda nervous about the final coats of paint after my stuck nozzle spray can episode,.. I have a Compressor I bought awhile back when I thought I was converting, What Airbrush would be a good buy for and works well doing mostly Car models?.....Steve thanks for the compliments at this moment it is 50 percent luck and 50 percent determanation to make it look like a nice car,....at 1 time I was thinking about a piece of small fishing line stretched down along the top of the top fender then putty'd up,...just would be a guide to go by ,and help keep a ridge Thanks, Barry Beachum
MrObsessive Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Barry, other folks will have their preferences.........but after 12 years I still swear by my Badger Crescendo! It's held up very well, and the only maintenance I've had to do was to replace the nylon bushing in the body of it. They tend to get weak after a while from removing and reinserting the needle after cleaning. Cost??..................Well circa 1994-95 when I bought it, price was around $75 at the time. Of course they're more expensive now.............but you don't want to get something that's gonna give you trouble in the long (or short) run. I'd rather pay the money for a good airbrush than go on the cheap and get a piece of junk that'll sit and collect dust!
B.Beachum Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 have to mess with it all the time,...thats anything,..I get so tried of buying something and get home find out it's junk, but now I don't waste my time or my money if I don't like what I see in 5 minutes ,back it goes,...Man,.. and there is some garbage out there,in everything,..thanks for the heads up on The airbrush,.... 100.00 should get a decent 1 Barry Beachum
Steve H. Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 at 1 time I was thinking about a piece of small fishing line stretched down along the top of the top fender then putty'd up,...just would be a guide to go by ,and help keep a ridge Thanks, Barry Beachum My trick is using a fine craft wire the same way you're describing. The advantage is that craft wire accepts any glue and putty, and doesn't sand down. It helps to cut a shallow channel to lay the wire in, so you can keep it straight.
B.Beachum Posted January 20, 2007 Author Posted January 20, 2007 are not that good,...yet,......Like the AVIS commercial,..Gotta try harder, I looked over the site and read tips and tricks and used Bill Geary's trick on chrome removal,..worked like a Champ,...I took the chrome off the injection unit so I can paint a Cast Aluminum,...I want to get a airbrush so I can try the Alcad Chrome, I got a free Sample bottle a couple years ago ,have no idea how to use it,...I will keep the wire in mind that will come in handy in the future as I hone my skills,..Yeah right,....Steve I went to your web page ,... and I went to Bill's ,....both are unreal,...maybe 1 day.
