Guest Mustang3.8 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Guys, can't we just leave Nick alone, and let him build? Nobody is good at anything without practice. He's doing great. If you compare some of his earlier builds with his builds now, and you will see a huge improvement. I know I see it. His skill improves with every build he does.
MikeMc Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Kevin, your "dedication" to Nick and the odd way you are always defending him and feel the need to come to his rescue is creepy. even more so when you call him "cuz" James and i may pretty well not agree on too much of anything, but his statement above nails it right on the head. Nick, you rush EVERYTHING and it shows in your work. i'm not hating on you, throwing you under the bus or whatever you want to call it. Mark Taylor started a tutorial pretty well specifically for you to help you improve your skills and instead of following along with your project and listening to the "teacher" you flipped to the back of the book, called it done and are sitting back with your feet up on the desk, arms folded and asleep. it's my opinion that you don't care to get any better and are well and content to build the way you do. Dave Dave you hit it square on the head,,,,,,C'mon Nick...time to grow....if Kevin could.......

Dave Dave, how is defending a friend creepy? You explain that to me.
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 What the hell happened tjis was friendly, guess not, I rush nothing, as for my truck I only jumped the gun because I have no time for models in the next 4+ weeks, it's nearing the end of the last semester and I'm hoping to have a good mark, and I do this only as a hobby, to releave stress but thanks to it lately I find myself more stressed.
spkgibson Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Nick sorry bro,But you do rush I tryed to explain to you HOW to do body work,On the hood of your 78 Formula you built,I Make some masters for one of are friends on here,And I know what it takes to make something look perfact!.......You seem like a good kid,You just need some guidence when it comes to doing things different........I'm not bashing you at all I'm here to help! One thing I will say guys,I'd rather see him making models then spending his day in front of the x-box playing video games!
Guest 85Biarittz Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Is it popcorn time? Time for popcorn? Can I make some Popcorn? Is popcorn okay? I can make some Popcorn. Anyone else want to have some Popcorn? I have the Butter and salt. I have popcorn. P O P C O R N ! JKSS
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 standing up for a friend is one thing, the way you do it though is creepy. not sure why you insist on calling him your cousin or 'cuz either, you two related? Nick, you rush everything period. you can argue with me until you are blue in the face and passing out from the lack of oxygen if you choose but you prove it with every build you post. i really have no idea why you feel the need to slam stuff together the way you do or why you have this self imposed deadline to finish something in. so what if you don't finish something within a week, there's always next week or the one after that. need time away from models for more important things in life? take the break, the models will still be there when you come back. Dave If you have no idea why do you care Dave, why do you Care?
Railfreak78 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I personally have let this thread sit with no comment from me for one reason only. I wanted to see how Nick acted, his friends acted, and his "elders" acted. I am going to say my 2 cents now. Anyone can take it or leave it due to I am NO side. Nick, a lot of people do want to help you. You do take things wrong at times. ( I actually PM'd you about a certain thing) Now on the other hand people.. How many people are on this forum? He is RIGHT in asking to not give to much to ONE person to handle without getting defensive. I can get along with people all over this board. Thats because when someone says they don't like something I did I do not take it personally ( nick pay attention ) and when you know how to let someone post without making them feel an inch tall ( pay attention people that bag on NIck) it will work out. Personally I feel a lot of people are missing out on a good trader ( more than 2 now ) cause you are all playing "puff my chest" So after a long wind .... Nick... Don't take everything personal. People making it Personal... make this a fresh start---
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Don't get me wrong now, I do appreciate when people do give me help, the problem is they like to load me up with too many things, if I've never heard of it before how in the hell am I supposed to use it, and Chances are if I'm not using it it's because I never have or don't know how to use it. So for an example saying I should use BMF next time is useless, if I'm not using it now, that comment makes you think I know how to use it and have it but don't because I'm lazy, well it's the opposite I don't have any, and i haven't a clue how to use it, Only reason why Rockford's '78 Firebird wears it is because someone tryed to show me, and we both failed miserably.
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 That appears to be a WWII relic. blaming someone else, Dave I'm self taught when it comes to models, only person to blame for my building habits is me, plain and simple.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 standing up for a friend is one thing, the way you do it though is creepy. not sure why you insist on calling him your cousin or 'cuz either, you two related? How is the way I stand up for my friends creepy? And no, me and Nick are not related. Lots of friends call eachother bro, or 'cuz. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Nick, let me suggest an alternate way to look at this: The Rockford/BMF experiment was your first try at something. It's not a "success" or "failure" so much as a learning experience. I'll be getting to BMF soon enough in the tutorial thread, so I'll show you step by step how I do it. But you can't get good results with BMF if the model you're putting the BMF on has any issues that make applying the BMF impossible to pull off. By which I mean, the trim underneath has to be crisp, clean, smooth and not buried in paint/filler, etc. Any technique, BMF included, takes some skill but all the skill in the world with BMF can't fix something that went wrong in an earlier step. You need to correct or avoid the problem there. The model has to be properly prepped/painted for BMF to look good. I know you hear the word "prep" in lots of posts, that's why. One step affects the next. Remember...with any technique or modeling supply if one modeler can get a good result with it, so can you so long as you follow the same steps. There's no black magic to BMF or anything else in modeling. It's just a series of steps. If you consistently do your best at EVERY one of those steps you'll have a good finished product. Failure to follow any of the steps, however, can undo the whole thing. The way the BMF looks has everything to do with what's under it. Which has to do with the surface you're left with after painting/clearing/polishing (whichever of those you end with) Which has to do with your paint prep stages. Which has to do with your assembly stage Which relies on clean parts prep stages, etc. etc. Nick, this will click for you as a concept at some point. A-to-B-to-C. If "A" is the unstarted kit, and "Z" is the finished product, you can't get there without W, G, K, or any of the other letters. No one of which is more or less important to the whole than the others. I hate when someone says "I can't get ______ technique or product to work" and doesn't take a step back to see if the preceeding steps are holding them back. I'll be right there watching for that portion, while I may not have anything on my workbench that requires chrome trim it will still be Very useful I don't find it creepy, and as for 'cuz it's kind of a nickname that kevins called since I've known him (3 years as of november)
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 trying to talk to you Nick is like talking to a brick good luck kid, you are going to need tons of it Dave I understood the message behind it Dave, I may not be a genious but I'm no fool either.

Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 no offense Jeff but are they paying you to do that?
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Nicks builds may have improved (slightly) over time, but the attitude has not. If anything it has worsened (which is why I've ignored him). I did however check the responses he posted here and one thing struck me: where he says "don't over-load me with too much info at once" It does make sense in a way...... How can someone process all that info and improve on everything all at once?? Very few can do that. However my response to Nick would be this - how can anyone thats giving you advise when its "too much information"? Every day I deal with having to solve a lot of problems (at work, home, dirving, and while involved in any of my myriad of hobbies). My philosophy (and take it for what its worth) is this "Give me all the info you have and let me decide whats important". Now everyones brain works different (if at all) so this may not work for everyone, but if you give it a try you may find that it works. The application is simple, some one gives a boat load of advise, you hear them out, and apply what you can where you can where you can. simple as that. This especially works in public situations because no matter how hard you try you can never and WILL NEVER be able to control what people tell you. BTW The Ignore feature is an excellent tool here. I have found it much more enjoyable here since I began using it. Speaking of which I think I'll make my experience here even better by adding Nicks personall body-guard Mustang to the list. it is great I haven't seen a single post from you, till now were I chose to see it anyway.

Jeff Sauber Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 no offense Jeff but are they paying you to do that? No.... just heard it on the radio, and it kinda reminds me of the confusion raining down on these threads at times.. I also like the guitar progressions.....Respect the classics, man.

Jeff Sauber Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Another JKSS Glad we have a Ref keeping score..... Guess this means I can't hit to the back of the head, or land soccer kicks to the face on a grounded opponent.
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 To "ledsled merc" I can't see what you say and don't care to see what you say.
Nick Winter Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Shall I repeat myself......................................
Jeff Sauber Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Yup. Confirmed my suspicion. Your attitude is terrible and you are basically a punk to those that try to help you. You read only what you want from everyones posts of advise and think the worlds out to get you. Get proffessional (psychiatric) help. you need loads of it. Best advise to anyone that wants to try to help the lil boy. DONT BOTHER! Its just time wasted. Let him wallow in his mediocre misery until he decides to try to pull himself out of it on his own. Guaranteed he comes BEGGING for advise. I have an extra pair of Kid Gloves for this thread....Would you like to borrow them? Otherwise Harry/Pat/Gregg are going to have to get out the broom and dust pans, [as per usual] to sweep up all the broken china and glass getting thrown about the place.
