A couple of coats or so of MicroScale Liquid Decal Film or a similar product would probably be a good idea and should take care of the crumbling.

If you have any skill at a computer, scan the old ones and print them on new decal paper. It is really not that difficult and then you can make extras if you mess one up(which I generally do!)

So, you've got an Alps printer? No? Then if the decals have any white then you've got a problem.

Not really. Just use white decal paper. If you use Adobe Photo Shop Essentials or better, and you need a border, it is very easy to put a very thin(1 or 2 pixel) black line around the outside edge to give you a cut line. Most decals should be done on white paper anyway to prevent bleed through of the back ground color. Now if you have metallics, that is a different story. Alps does an incredible job on metallics while other printers just can't do true metallic colors.

If you've got white lettering then you still have a problem, unless you're really good with an Xacto knive and can cut all those letters out seperately. Some of those letters are really small, like addresses and phone numbers for the sponsors.

Granted, then you need a friend with an Alps printer.

I use Microscale Decal Film, it works good, had a set of decals from the AMT '70 Chevy truck kit, used the Microscale they worked like new.

... a light coat of a quality clear paint will seal the old decal ......... the only issue is that it makes the decal sheet continuous ........ like a Cady decal ....... you have to cut close to the images ........ here's a Gene Snow Charger decaled in this manner ........... the Slixx decals were over ten years old and went on beautifully :D:huh:
