Maaso Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 As a kid I was into the hobby, then I grew up and got into real cars. Then I grew up a bit more and am happy having a car that starts everyday. So I figured joining this forum would be a great start to getting my foot back into the door. I have a lot of ideas in my head, my only problem is trying to find the specific models I want and supplies locally. I'm specifically looking for a 98+ extended cab S10 (preferably a ZR2 if they make that model) and a 96~2000 full size Chevy truck. And maybe a 98+ S10 Blazer....
jeffs396 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 (edited) Welcome to the site! You'll have to do some scatchbuilding & kitbashing to get the S10s you want to build, but Revell has the 99 Silverado extended cab 2WD truck reissue out right now. Only standard cab S10s that I'm aware of, but there were 2 & 4 door Blazer kits made, just not quite that new, grille work will be in order. Good luck, and show us what you come up with! crazyjim Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Welcome. You can have a lot of fun here and might be able to learn a thing or two about modeling. It's great. Don't forget the internet as a supply source. There's a ton of goodies out there.
JamesW Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Perry's resin has an S-10 Ext. cab conversion. You'll need one of the AMT S-10's for a donor and you'll have to scratch build the grille/headlights, or get them from a diecast. The conversion kit includes the cab, frame and interior bucket and runs $35.00. Here is the link for Perry's Resin.
Greg Cullinan Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Always a plus when your car starts! Its right up there with stopping, Welcome to the site and back to the hobby!
speedy5963 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Welcome to the forum, this is a great site with lots to share and learn!
Maaso Posted May 28, 2010 Author Posted May 28, 2010 I think I found the base truck, AMT's 94 S10, and a 97 Blazer 4x4. Problem is they are on eBay and I can only pay with something called Paypal. Anyone know of any places that stock these other than auction sites? That Perry's Resin extended cab truck...does anyone know if that is an first GEN or a second GEN truck? I couldn't find any pictures of it. I wanted the 96~98 truck just to pull the L31-type V8 engine out of, since that is what my real ZR2 has I thought it would be cool to put in my model truck. Revell's reissue 99 truck is the new body style and has the GEN III LS-series engine. Only thing I can't find is a 1:25 98+ S10 to salvage the front end from.
RJWood Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Hi Doc. Ya know I have this rash around my...Uh, Oh.. Never mind. Welcome to the forum. There are a few dealers who have older kits for sale, that way you don't have to sign-up for paypal, that paypal stuff just makes it too easy to buy stuff on ebay, which in turn comes back to haunt you when the CC bill arrives and the wife gets it first. (just a scenario, not necessarily a personal experience...yea right ) jiminohio often posts here and if you scroll down the forum index to the Links, Advertisers and Web Sites you will find his post with web addy. Enjoy the forum and see you around. Oh by the way, the rash thing, just a joke, I'm cool.
Tony T Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Welcome aboard! Good luck finding what you need. That can be half the fun!
Maaso Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 Hi Doc. Ya know I have this rash around my... Not my field lad, I'm a herpetologist. I found Jim's site, he has a few of the trucks I need. Thanks for the link.
JamesW Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 The Perry's kit is for the 94+ S-10. There are a few people on another forum that have bought them and they look to be VERY nicely casted. I plan on getting 1 or 2 for a replica of my 1:1.
Maaso Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 Do you happen to have a link to the pictures of them by chance?
JamesW Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Here's a couple pics. He said that's exactly how it came, no clean up was needed.
Maaso Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 Wow! I can really dig that, it's almost spot on perfect. Aside from the door ding/skuff pad along the rocker line...nothing a file can't fix though. Any other pictures, more engine bay particularly. It looks more "stripped down" than the AMT kit does.
JamesW Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Nope, it's actually molded from the AMT kit. A master was made with 2 kit cabs, chassis and interior bucket and then the mold was made and poored. Everything is/should be spot on to the kit.
