Deckerz Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 So i got this kit today, i also got and extra exhaust from tamiya for the engine going in this car. Iv decided to use these wheels some of you may remember from my gtx project, i see caterhams at my local hill climb event with these mini cooper wheels, im using them because they are wider then the stock ones and look better. Im going to cut off the front arches, add some splitters to the front nose and some vent to the hood. A custom roll bar will be made and i need to chop some bucket seats i have to make them fit. Need to get the last wheel off the coopers axle then cut the insides of them so they will fit. Rear susp will be made independent like the caterhams, the engine i want to use in this is a V6 so if anybody could hook me up with a tamiya V6 engine or set up a trade maybe i would appreciate it.
jbwelda Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 nice! you might think about using the twin cam motor originally from the gunze sangyo lotus elan but now available in resin from replicas and min of maryland. at least i think they repoped the gunze one, they sure look close to identical. but i do like your idea for the V6...but i not sure where youre going to find one. did tamiya put one in something that can be transplanted from? i dont know. you could get a buick/rover/mg/etc V8 in white metal: heres the twin cam, this one in white metal...i forget where i got it: or a jaguar V12: there are a lot of interesting options out there. no matter which one you choose though, i gotta keep an eye on your progress!
Deckerz Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 Cool, the metal one looks more accurate, the lotus twin cam and rover twin cam are the same apart from the badge, iv got the rover twin cam in my real car so its always a good thing to work from I might acctually go with the twin cam acctually now, i can get it more accurate and it will probaly be easier to get then a v6.

There's a nice Twin Cam in the Tamiya Lotus Europa that would need a tranny graft to switch the Transaxle to a Transmission. Also the Lotus ID is over the Cam Chain cover not the Cam covers. The only white metal kit I'm aware of came fron Curbside Dioramics through Mini Exotics and it dosn't seem to be listed any longer. Ed
