all right fellas, i messed up somewhere with my priming. im using model master primer, i sprayed a light coat on cab and hood then 4 days later i sanded lightly , cleaned off all the dust then put a heavier coat on. i have been gone for 6 weaks and now im trying to sand primer, well its all cracked up and looks like it grew thicker while i was gone if you can imagine that. now im sanding my but off tryin to get this primer smoothed out. i live in s e mo. and its a lil humid here but not bad yet. any suggestions are greatly appreciated and wanted!!! thanks

I have no Idea what is causing that, but if I where you, I would strip the body and use Duplicolor primer. It dries fast and is sand-able

whats the best way, lol and most painless way to strip the primer off { my patience pretty thin with this } thanks

Donnie is correct you need to use Duplicolor primer.Use the build up for body work and the sealer for finishing. Now your issue may be from the release agent they use in the factory on the model.Unless you washed it.In that case it could be different types of paint mabye not mixing.I know the humidity cant be it cause Im in Florida and primer works just fine for me.to make it quicker dip yer model in brake fluid to remove all the primer and wash the model with soap and water. This works very well.I recently saved a couple of models by doing this. The brake fluid will not hurt the plastic.Good Luck! ;)

im just not sure why it came out like it did, the primer i used both times was from same can. i shook it very well and did it outside at about 80 degrees warm. all i know is i cant get an even surface anywhere, its almost like it foamed up and it wasnt like this when i left. i will most definately go get some duplicolor and never use model masters again! wow what a pain in the but, some places its about 1/16" thick. thanks alot for the help guys. as soon as i figure out how to put pics on here i will post progress on my three biulds ; 2 glue bombs turned into 1 day cab 4070b int. and 1 double bunk 4070b int ( never seen 1 before so i made 1) and 1 new from box 4300 transtar. thanks again im off to find some brake fluid or super clean if i got any!!

ok i dont have enouph super clean, apparently the wife found my jug, lol. so dave how long do i let the brake fluid soak , does it have to be submerged or can i just brush it on and leave it?? thanks

I had a can of Model Master primer do that to me once. It dried really thick and bubbly. I though I had put it on too thick or that it was a humidity problem... That was the last time I used MM. DupliColor is the way to go. Most of my builds use Duplicolor primer and paint now because it's a much better product..

Well I usually let em soak over night u need to see how the paint reacts, it may come off in minutes it may not.Ive noticed model paint comes off much quicker.Good luck.

cowboysevens be careful if you have to scrub with a brush, I cracked the hood on my Bill Sighns Pete after soaking overnight in break fluid.

Dennis, while handling the superclean/purple power(walmarts brand) Use rubber gloves! do not get it on your hands, as it sucks the moisture from your skin, leaving your hands dry and cracking, no lotion will fix it. Just a safety precaution. Ive used latex gloves with good results..although they swell up..it still protects ya.

If you have a michaels craft store and a weekly 40% coupon (or a 5o%) off , use it on a can of white plastikote primer (or valspar as they changed names) its a lacquer, it flows really good, better than any model master primer. Dupli color is a good 2nd choice if you cant find the plastikote. Plastikote is nearly bulletproof spraying it (in my opinion)

well ive got the hood on the soak with super clean, i figured i would buy both plasticote and duplicolor primer but i couldnt find any plasticote, nearest michaels is in fenton about an hour away and i just wasnt up for the trip today ( in my lazy been on road for 6 weaks mood) lol. so ill let her soak over night and see what happens, thanks alot for all the help guys i really appreciate it!

well i got one of the 4070 cabs primed today, i used the duplicolor. man what a differance, but i did find a good use for that model masters junk : i used it to hold the cab up while i primered it with the good stuff lol!!! so i was wondering if the testers paint from can is any good these days, cause i baught about 12 cans of it when i bought the masters ######. oh and i got the grey duplicolor primer, lol you sure can see where any other body work is needed after you prime it, thats good stuff thanks for the help on this one guys. as soon as i figure out how to send pics to the forum ill show my progress

theirs the trouble MM paint, I stopped using that years ago now I use Duplicolor primer and paint have not any trouble since unless its too hot 90,100+ paint drys to fast turns into a power or too cold under 50 I think, paint comes out too thick.Think I have that down pat. Try Duplicolor and see how you like.
